    Smile 22t inner ring on FC-M980: fits perfectly!

    EDIT:

    After reading the replies below, i bought and mounted a m970 22t ring.

    Fits and shifts perfectly!

    The offset difference is just ~0.4mm, nothing to worry about.

    No good Be careful of the 14t rule...38-22=16>14!

    Hi,

    ...I did this with my XT 2x10, and I ended up sucking the chain into the shadow + rear derailleur when stomping on it and shifting down on the rear cogs. I weigh 230 and am riding a SC Tallboy LTc, likely my suspension movement caused the chain to be loose enough to whip and get sucked into the cage and it basically sheared the XT M785 RD in two, destroyed the cogs, broke a spoke and may have tweaked the solid derailleur hanger.

    If you keep the 22t you'll want to go down on the outside to a 36t at a minimum.
