    2008 XT Ride report

The chaps over at Bikemagic have got their hands on the new XT gear and their first impressions are great.

    http://www.bikemagic.com/news/articl...N/5623/v/1/sp/

The shadow derailleur sits well out of the way and the brakes seem to have loads of adjustment. Looks good so far.

It appears that QBP has the majority of the parts in stock...they had ft ders, rear der, shifters (both V and hydro) and cranksets.

The crankset is kinda strange though...175m with 26-36-48 combo. That is "old school" chainring sizing...

the xt cranks always come with 2 gearings: compact (22-32-44) and "standard" (26-36-48)... so it is probably that they were showing the specs of the "standard" one

yeah, I think yetirich was looking at the 07 stuff (760 series of numbers) rather than 08 stuff (770 series of numbers). Oh well, it shouldn't be long for the rest of it to come in, since they do have the 08 shadow rear der (though I don't think I saw the regular 08 rear ders).

We just got some bikes in with the new XT stuff on it (Trance x's) I have to say that the new shadow rear Derr. is pretty sweet, we ordered 4 of these from our rep from just seeing them out of his gucci sample box. The Shifters and rear derrailleur work very nice and positive! The shifters can be push/pull or push/push and either way works great. the shifts are positive and extremely crisp. The rear derrailleur is also very nicely tucked away and pretty darn lightweight to boot. The shifters also have an option that allows you to remove the shift indicators and cover up the hole with a nice badge that is tucked away o the backside of the shifter against the handlebar. I just can't wait to see the XTR versions of this stuff!

I want to know what everyone thinks of the 08 XT crank because I am thinking about ordering. Even more so since I can seem to find the size I want cheaper than the 07 verson.

Haven't had a chance to use it, but it looked good when the rep brought it to show. Should work at least as well as the current version, and should work better--the middle ring should last longer, anyway. XT cranks have always been very nice. I was originally thinking of skimping on my new build to save some cash, but I've decided it was worth it to save a little more to get the XT, so I just can't wait until they are available at our shop.

yeah my middle ring on my crank is a little messed up and force me to need to replace it so I figure I might as well do it right and just upgrade the crank as well. Only thing is does is it ruins my plans to convert my bike to a 9 speed and over to SRAM and grip shift. Costing me about the same amount.

Hmm, I was wondering, is it possible to replace my LX Chainrings to 08 XT Chainrings?
