    10sp crank + 9 sp setup?

will the 10speed dynasys crankset work with a 9 speed system? I have a 9 speed (22x34xbash) setup but want to change the crank to a 10 speed dynasys ( XT or XTR ) but I want to make sure it will work with my 9 speed system.

I only use the brake, so I can accelerate all over again...

im using sram gripshifts 9 speed x9 and just replaced the cranks to xtr race 2 ring 10 speed cranks.

using the old kmc 9 (not stretched) speed chain and xtr rear cassette.

    so far so good.

Sorry, looking in the forum but I did not find a answer. My crankset broke ( Shimmano M770 9 speed) , does M780 10 speed crankset will work fine? All the drivetrain is XT 9speed. Has any one tested it?

    thank you

It should be fine, especially given that the rest of your drivetrain is 9 speed.

Not the exactly same, but I've run the following combos with great shifting:

Shimano 10 speed road cranks with 9 speed drivetrain
Shimano 9 speed mtn cranks with 8 speed drivetrain
Shimano 9 speed mtn cranks with 10 speed drivetrain
Shimano 10 speed everything (including cranks), with 9 speed chainrings

There are some sweet deals on SLX cranksets if you are looking to save a little $. It is my understanding that the weight and performance are nearly identical to XT.

Shimano 10-speed, 2 x 10 crank works well, with 9-speed. Get even quicker front shifts and go 10-speed front derailleur, with a XTR/Dura Ace 10-speed chain - for many benefits of 10-speed...with one less gear!
