I have a set of the 08 XT wheels with the 9mm axle and I am considering a 20mm fork. The wheels are great, but you can't convert the front from 9 to 20mm. Can I buy a single XT front wheel with the 20mm hub? My other option is to build a new wheel, but then the front and back won't match.
I have a friend in the exact same position - he has the XT M775 wheels but is contemplating one of the new Reba's with 20mm axle. My suggestion to him - though this needs validating by one of the shimano experts here - is that he might be able to get the hub from the XT M776 wheel as a spare part and then get this laced to his front wheel. Of course, this would only be possible if the spoke lengths etc aren't too different, and it will require a wheel builder to carry it out which will cost - but surely it will be less than the cost of a wheel, and you'll end up with front and rear rims matching.
But like I said - need someone with more Shimano knowledge to verify it's even do-able.
They don't actually match anyway, the 20mm 776 set are a wider rim and a different paint pattern on the rims.
The XT 776 wheels are heavier than the Easton Havoc AM's which do have a convertible 9mm/20mm front hub.
