If you had a new Flite and $800 to upgrade...

    What would you upgrade?
    New fork? Wheels? Neither?

And I would definitely like to lose a few pounds.

that bike really isnt the kind you get concerned about losing weight. Its got nice wheels, i would keep them until the get really messed up or something. Maybe start out with handlebars and stem that suits your fancy, then drivetrain.

I would ride and replace as needed.

If your worried about weight the Flite might not be for you. For the cost of the Flite+800 dollars you can get a bad ass carbon Sette XC Bike, but I dont know what kind of riding your doing. So what kind of riding are you doing?

XO shifter, rear derailleur, XT front derailleur and cassette. If you have enough cash left over maybe some ztr wheels with ztr hubs.

Just me, but I'd get a Fox Fork and a set of Stan's Flows..but then again, anytime I see a budget I always use the 20% rule... It's always gonna cost 20% more than I expected.
