What to do in the last 9 days?

This will be my third Sea Otter. I will finish at the bottom quarter of the sport singlespeed crowd and will be proud of it. (I know the category name is different this year.)

I noticed that resting a few days before the race helps me, and I was planning to rest about 5 days this time too. The problem is, I will be away from my bike from March 27 through April 8. That leaves only 9 days to recover from jet-lag and get ready for the race.

    What should be my plan?

Not that I am competitive, but I don't want to do too bad or cramp either.

    Active rest and hydration.

Active rest meaning light spinning, since that's too long of a taper (or drop off). Can you run or swim during your 12 day hiatus from the bike? With 9 days to go after the layoff, you should go hard for a couple days, then taper to easy rides leading up to race day.

    And stay hydrated.

I have no aspirations of podium in the old fart cat 3 XC, so plan on training through the Sea Otter, then try to Peak in August for the High Cascade 100 & again in October for the Bend Big Fat Tour Epic.

Thanks! I may be able to sit on a stationary bike thing at a gym.
