    2013 Sea Otter practice

This will be my first Sea Otter race and I'm a beginner. I'd like to get in a few more practices then Thurs and Fri before the Sat race. Does anyone know if you can go out there and do a few runs? If so has anyone started doing it yet?

    Thanks!

Pratice times will be listed on the site too.
From what I understand you might get lucky to make two practice runs.

I don't think the trails are complete.

If you find yourself in Monterey early and need to play in the dirt you can ride Badger Hills, Toro Park, or Creakside Trailhead. It will take some pedaling but if you know where to go you can find good runs, like Pipeline.

    It's on the website.

You'll get 1 hour 45 minutes on both Thursday and Friday for DH practice runs. And 1 hour and half on Saturday morning.

Depending on the crowd and how well the shuttles run, you can get 2 to 4 runs each practice.

On Thurs you might get 3 or 4, but you'll be lucky to get 2 on Friday. I'm going to practice top half and just walk back up to the start, will be faster than waiting for the shuttle...

Is the crowd really that bad on Friday? How strict are they on Cat 2 riders practicing during the cat 3 time slot?

I have always gotten at least 2 runs in on Friday. Yes, the crowd can get heavy. Be in line early and 2 runs shouldn't be a problem. Show up any time after practice starts and you'll be at the mercy of the shuttles.

They have a lady sitting at the start, looking at the number plates. She catches most but not all.

If you are racing cat 2, don't bother trying to practice with cat 3. You will end up catching the riders in front of you and end up cruising down the whole run, it's all kids and beginners. Also, the cat 3 riders don't need someone breathing down their neck asking them to pull over or passing them. If you get 2-3 runs in each day, you will be fine- it's a pretty easy course.
