    Scott Genius 650b thread

Okay, well I am kinda interested in this bike and have not much on mtbr related to the Genius 650b. If you got pics, testimonials, opinions, or anything else related to any Genius 650b models, please post!

I saw a 740 Genius in a shop in Fort Lauderdale , it listed for $3,150.It was a nice bike with XT/SLX components. I considered buying it for a moment, then a cooler head prevailed. I'd love to have it but have a stable of 3 bikes at home and no place for a fourth.

I like it allot in rocky climbs is excellent and in descents too I dont know if its placebo effect but I feel more comfortable in the downhills.

I have been on a Genius 720 since January. It is a great bike and has lead to a change in riding style, what more fun than my older XC F/S bikes.
I kept breaking the other bikes by riding as a lively, hopping and popping style. Broke a 2008 Fisher Hi-Fi carbon, then broke a 2010 Trek Top Fuel Carbon (twice), then broke my first 650B ride a 2012 Jamis SixFifty.
The Scott had everything I wanted, especially how Burley it is. The fact that it climbs like a beast doesn't suck at all and it rails on the downhill. Haven't done an Enduro Race on the bike yet but that is on the Agenda for 2014. Plenty of good deals out there too.

Race-report BC Bike Race on the Genius700sl

    positive:
    - stability
    - no big issues
    - rear shock performed better than journo's comment on
    - geo is imho perfect for everything an amateur wants to ride
    - sticks to the ground: perfect for the enduro (rockgardens etc)

    negative:
    - talas fork doesn't work well in low (120) position
    - you can't blame the bike
    - ripped both rear-derrie/rear-brake cables loose on 2 occasions
(carry those tiny zip-ties with you on multi-day outings)
    - reverb ain't the most reliable dropper...
    - a little less playfull on "half nelson" and "Crank it up" as I would hope
(not a jumper, the genius, and yezz I played the low/high-setting)

=> this is THE amateur bike: usable for every kind of ride, only a real top 100 racer should buy the Spark, I got 2 wheel/tyre-sets

it is my tenth fully: absolutely THE BEST
    ordering the 2014 next week

been riding one for a couple of weeks now. the rear shock sucks, especially compared to other genius's. Nice bike, but get a real rear shock that lets you bomb the downhill as good as the bike climbs would be nice, and they are using a different shock for 2014. I would not buy a 2013 genius after riding this bike for 2 weeks.

Its not that bad you have to adjust the air preassure it is not a fox thats for sure I am goin to wait for the new to come out and swap the rear shox for a fox and problem solved.

what I found was, the air pressure is way to sensitive. the rear is either way to stiff, or not stiff enough. tried playing with the sag. It seems to be harsh when you hit square into things, wether it is roots or rocks. However I have only had the bike 2 weeks and it goes back to the real owner tomorrow. I have been renting it until my genius warranty frame comes in. But I leave for a big trip sunday and am hoping when I get back, I will have my bike back. stoked about the 650b wheel size though.

Hi, I have the basic Scott Genius 740 with the basic DT swiss shox. After a few rides its as good
as any Fox float rp23 or rp ive ever used on any bike.

My problem is my forks are fecked, just gone back with no rebound. So should come back like new.

Sorry in advance for my untidy garden. All work at the moment.

Replaced the rear shock on my 2010 Jamis Dakar 650B1 with a Fox, and it is smokin! Had so much fun with it yesterday. Kind of awkward now, since I have a 2 week old 740. The 740 just doesn't seem to respond to a lean. Maybe I'm just not used to the 740, or don't have it dialed in yet, but I'm pretty bummed.

Yeah, I had a 2012 Jamis with the RS Monarch, the bikes are totally different in my opinion. If and when my DT suspension fails I'll go with Fox product but hey, I like their stuff anyhow. In the meantime I have been thrashing my DT set up and is has been great. Only issue has been that the cable stops on the Twin Lock vibrate loose and the suspension starts to squeak. I just tighten them down each ride just to be sure. small price to pay for being able to switch up my suspension on the fly.
