I don't think it would be a problem to replace the shock with an air shock from Rock Shox or Fox but a coil would be tough. The DT Swiss shocks come in a standard lengths that should be pretty easy to swap.

The bike is designed to use a air shock. It would affect the swing ratio and the bike would ride like $hit. no coil shock. Plus why, ???? Air shocks are the bees knees.....
