Tips with swapping in a new derailleur hanger for my BLT2

Hi, I bent my derailleur hanger and have a new one ready to swap in. I get the basic part of taking off the derailleur, taking off the bent hanger, bolting on the new hanger, and reattaching the derailleur. My question is: is there any "special tips" on this procedure? Like being in a specific gear? Also, I suck at tuning derailleurs. Will my shifting need a trip to the lbs for a tune? Thanks for any help.

Unfortunately, I bend mine all the time and just replace them. It's a straight forward change like you explained.
Your RD should be fine as long as it was good before you bent the hanger.

    Good luck!

As a rule of thumb, if my bike was shifting ok before th hanger was trashed AND it didn't mess up th derailleur or cable, etc, then you should be able to put on a new hanger w/no adjustmentz needed. So, leave the cable attached, unbolt the derailleur from th hanger, remove the bent hanger & replace it w/the new straight one, then bolt on the derailleur. I do this as needed on the trail & am back riding with a quickness, no adjustments required.

    Hope this helps.

If you replace it and shifting isn't smooth, don't run straight to the shop - hit up Park Tool Co. ParkTool Blog Rear Derailler Adjustments (derailleur) first and see if you can save some time/cash.
