    Tallboy LTC 2012 vs 2013

LBS has a 2012 LTC but curious if there were any changes for 2013 I should know about first?

Just the rear shock I think; first run of 2012s came with RP23, later changed to the CTD version. I find the RP23 more tunable, but the CTD more idiot-proof, and with a more complete lockout if you do a lot of long road climbs.

Price went up and the shock changed to a CTD. IMO my RP23 is better for tuning.

    Tallboy LTC 2012 vs 2013

Shock is the difference....get the 2012 version, the RP23 is a better shock, CTD is too idiot proof...

There is such a thing as 2012 TBLTcs with 135mm hubs. maybe the very first, right off the launch, but they did exist. So check for that.

Below is a copy from the LTc owners forum:

the pricing on the complete r/am and spx/am carbon bikes is more than the differential in frame only pricing because we have to include a wheel upgrade to account for the 142x12 rear end on the carbon bike. regular 135 wheel on the r-kit gets an xt rear hub, while the thru axle bike gets a more expensive DT 350 hub. we have not yet updated the kit matrixes to reflect this, sorry.

two, margins. in the case of our complete bikes, we often try to hit a lower price point, which is why those particular bikes always cost substantially less than if you pieced the same bike together as part of our a la carte menu. in some cases, we will take a further hit to our margins in order to make that bike fit into a more attractive retail price point. this in turn makes our complete pricing less predictably linear than might be ideal when comparing bikes across the board.

    hope that helps

    Tallboy LTC 2012 vs 2013

The LTc was always 142x12. The LTa is 135x9. That comment from SC about the pricing difference is explaining the difference between the equivalent kits for the carbon and the aluminum frame builds (the carbon kit is more expensive because it needs a 142 compatible hub).

SC don't do model years, so what your dealer is calling a 2012 may well be the same as a bike you could buy now. As others have said, the only difference might be the shock-although SC switched from the old RP23 to the CTD shock as soon as they were available, which was in the summer of 2012. I got my LTc in early June from the first batch, a month or so later they were shipping with the CTD.
