Sizing Help on a new or used Blur LT

Hello -

I'm new to full suspension mtn biking, making the transition from road riding.

I'm 5'6" with a 29" inseam and am being fit on both small and medium Blurs at my LBS. I rode a Small Classic LT and a Medium 2008 LT2.

Because I don't yet have a foundation for what the bike SHOULD feel like, I can't tell what size is really right for me with my longer torso than inseam...

Any input? Anybody selling a Blur LT in Colorado that will fit me???

Cheers

Hey Soulfabric...welcome to MTBR and your first post. I'm already guessing if you are from Boulder you are working with a very good bike shop. Combine that with them fitting you to both small and medium Blurs you should be in great shape to make a good decision on which Blur LT frame. Both Blur and Blur LT frames are not that different (small to small and medium to medium). I'd be sweating saddle height; stem length; handlebar choice; weight of build; etc more once you and the bike shop decide if you need a small or medium frame. My guess is since you have been a road biker you might like the medium frame best. Again you are lucky to live in Boulder with so many quality bike shops and professionals who can make you happy on any bike!

Okay, one more question.

If I have to choose between the newer '09 anodized LT2 frame with a lesser groupo, or a new 08 powdercoated LT frame with a better groupo, which is more logical to sink my $ into? it's an R-AM versus an X9-AM.

The pricing is a few hundred more for the LT2 with the R-AM.

Well... I had a similar dilemma, size wise we are at the cusp of Small vs. Medium. I am 5'5.5" with a 27 inseam. I spoke to the boys at SC. The said something similar to mp007; if you are a road guy you may be used to more of a stretched out feel and want to go medium. Being 1” larger in WB the medium would give you a bit more stability and be a better curser on longer XC rides. With that said, you will lose the a bit of nimbleness on quick turns if you happen to explore a little downhill fun. Also, the the standover height on the small is 27.8" and 28" for the medium, you seem to be good here either way....lets just hope the .2 never come into play :) SC's recommendation for me was to go with the small and swap out to a longer stem if things feel a little cramped.

All the best.

I just picked up mine yesterday. I'm 5'6" (and some change on a good day)with a 29 inch inseam. I'm on the bloody cusp of everything involving size. Pants, shirts, bikes... I went with a small with a fairly long stem. Being that I've ridden MT before (always smalls) I was pretty confident in the size. I could have gotten a way with a Med I think but biketuna is on target; much easier to sling around on the trail...
