I already did order a full XT drivetrain and XT brakes. I guess I shouldn't have assumed the order would go through. It's mainly the front der. and bottom bracket that might not be compatible with a different frame I'll end up with, but hopefully things will work out. I didn't ask or was offered any compensation, although it would've been a nice gesture on their part.

    It happened to me.
I wasn't 100% sure if I really wanted the bike (TRc) so I ran to my LBS and rented one yesterday. I really liked it a lot and decided to order it.
I have also ordered several parts already. Won't be able to return all of them and will have to pay return shipping on some.
So it did cost me, first the bike rental and now some parts which will be lying around for a while.
I do like Santa Cruz bikes (own a Tallboy) but this experience put me off a little bit. I know, **** happens, but they did not have to wait till the next day afternoon to let me know about the cancellation...
I have explained the same in a respond e-mail to them, but I do not think it will change anything...

Damn! Seems like I missed everything good! If anyone picked a medium TRc that they are having regrets about, I'd be happy to purchase from you .

    Hey Santa Cruz!!
THANKS for the chance to buy one of your frames for an extremely killer price! I think this was a great way to promote your company and to let SOME people get lucky enough to ride a kick but carbon frame for what a lot of people pay for aluminum. You may read here that some people think your company now sucks and is going thru some growing pains. They have obviously never been to a true "sidewalk" sale. They are usually (unless you are at the Kohl's sidewalk sale) a goat fornicator. But that is half the fun. You may luck out, you may not. They also have never learned to let their eggs hatch before buying the carrots and potatoes for the great chicken stew they are going to make. I completely understand that you normally do not sell frames online and that it may not go perfectly smooth when you decide to try it using deeply discounted pricing. So PLEASE, ignore the hater's and the negative attitudes and PLEASE do this again next year. I am sure WE here on this forum will learn our own lesson and be VERY grateful the next time you decide to blowout some frames.
    Thanks from a loyal customer

I've got a TBc, (and paid full msrp) so don't need another but I'd be damn pissed if I was a stocking dealer and SCB was selling direct. At least blow them out to steep and cheap etc. They have it figured out how to blow stuff out the door and not make people upset.

This was left for me as feedback to my previous post.
"Your an idoit. It's 2012 it's not hard to set up a shopping cart linked to actual inventory."

You are right, who ever you are. I probably am an idiot for posting my "thank you" letter. But I have also learned to be grateful for things that are not the norm. And do you work for Santa Cruz? Do you know how their inventory is tracked? Do you know how they track the inventory according to model year or to what ones are actually on sale?
THEY TRIED TO DO A NICE THING FOR THE GENERAL MASSES. So it didn't go perfectly. That does not mean that they are a bad company. It just means that if you don't like the uncertainty, PAY FULL PRICE and get what you want when you want it.

And for the record, if you are calling someone and idiot, you may want to check your grammar. Here is the correct version if you need help.

i doubt SC will offer this sale online next year after all the *****ing and moaning. it's a parking lot sale, treat it as such! how often do you get the chance to get some of the most popular carbon frames at over 1k off. also, how is it SC's fault that you tried one out, liked it, but weren't able to get one over 1000 bucks off. if you tried the bike and liked it, buy one. buy one for msrp and get the damn new rear end and colors and be on your way. on another side note, i'm hoping the blur XC comes down in price a bit more since they don't seem as popular anymore. i guess the tallboy and 29er's in gen are kind of the new norm.

Yep, dead serious. There's a lot of *****ing and moaning here, and you never know what you're going to get unless you ask. I'm not talking about a lawsuit or anything significant (obviously), but a small discount towards a new '13 frame isn't necessarily out of the question since they were clearly in over their heads with this sale.

How do you figure? Correcting grammar of someone that calls you an idiot is slightly different then giving negative reps torwards a company AND someone trying to defend said company.

    Ignore the hater's what?

If you're going to blast someone on their grammar skills, you might want to be correct yourself first.

Parking lot sales happen every year. I live near Intense and have watched that sale. Some people with cash in hand, who know what they want, get some great deals on older models of stuff.

That's exactly what a wider audience is getting here. I'd been looking at a TRc for about a year and ordered it immediately upon seeing the sale. I also ride a less popular size. It looks like I lucked out.

People who got orders in quickly seem to be getting them. It is unfortunate that some inventory was not updated quickly enough. Some people got out of stock cancellations, but they really aren't out anything. I ordered parts without a shipping confirmation knowing there was a risk I would have to do returns. I also feel like I received great communication from SC during the process.

I really hope people don't sour a positive opportunity. I hope SC does this again in the future. I imagine they will update the inventory process. This is a hell of a lot better than a real parking lot sale.

I think they should have just put something in the first page that says something like "orders not guaranteed until you receive shipping confirmation".
That way, if you go out and buy parts before you get you shipping notice it is on you.

I do think this is a great opportunity, and appreciate SC putting it out there. I hope this continues in the future, and the process is improved.

Don't think that SC is any way responsible for folks who ordered parts up, but I do understand how some folks are frustrated with the cancellations.

How long have you worked at santa cruz?

I think the whole thing would have been fine if they didn't have you put in CC info and everything without some sort of warning that there was no way to check your order or even find out if you were getting a frame. I think that's what upset me the most. If it was just a line that you waited in or something, then w/e. But actually putting $1500 on the line and waiting for days with no info is not something a lot of people can do.

If it was a parking lot sale, you either have the cash and the frame is there, or you don't. There's no in between where they say, hey let me hang on to your cash, but come back in 3 days and you might be able to have a frame.

When you walk into a parking lot sale, do you pick up a ticket for the item, pay for it in full and few hours later you're told it's out of stock? Just because this was on the web is no excuse. People shouldn't have been able to purchase something they didn't have.

Yes SC was doing something nice, but if you put something for sale on the web, you had better make sure you have it to sell. I love my TBc, but being a blind fan of a brand excusing anything they do is silly.

All they had to do was set it up like any other online shop. Even if you love SC as a company, you have to see this was a bone headed move. I'd be seriously pissed if I ordered parts for a build based on a frame they sold me yet never had.

Man, I am glad they didn't have any Highballs on the sale....not sure I would have been able to hold back.

Fortunately I dont want a 26" wheeled bike.

That's what I did. And my order was confirmed Tuesday morning when I called (placed order Monday night), only to be notified later in the day in an email that my **** was cancelled.

Real Mickey Mouse operation for a clearance sale if you ask me, especially from such a reputable AND respected brand as Santa Cruz.

Anyone who got a confirmation to only then have the ordered cancelled because SC didn't have the product they previously confirmed having, should get a 2013 frame for dealer cost. That way SC doesn't loose any money and they have happy customers.

I imagine there was some kind of real time inventory being calculated on the website, because as soon as I completed my Tallboy order that specific color (blue) disappeared from the site. Because of that I assumed I got the last frame in that color and went ahead and ordered my parts. I also had put a black color frame in my shopping cart and let it sit there for about 20 minutes, when I went to check out it said black was no longer in stock.

I know, I shouldn't have assumed, I was just excited to be buying my first Santa Cruz product. I think I just had higher expectations from a smaller American company. I'll just have to learn from the experience and be more cautious in the future. The bike industry is extremely competitive and little things like this can have a negative effect.

Something like this happened to my friend with Specialized, I think it was even below dealer cost. And he makes sure to tell everyone. I've probably heard the story a hundred times by now.

Well, to be accurate my email said the order was cancelled because it couldn't be fulfilled, although it still says "pending" on the website. Maybe this means "pending until we get more in stock?"

    At least I can dream...

Anyone complaining because they didn't get what they want here is a whiny little b i t c h. Little Timmy didn't get the toy he wanted for Christmas so now he hates his parents. How old are you people? Yes you may be a little disappointed, but to think that Santa Cruz owes you something is ludicrous.

    Great news after all.

I called my LBS today just to try my luck.
Well, they did order some bikes from SC sale. (Probably before it was offered to public)
The best part - Santa Cruz TRc medium in stock for 1.5K.
I am now a new owner of the great bike after all. This played out even better, since I got it directly from my favorite bike shop - The Path in Tustin / California.
I did not have to pay shipping and they even give me some discount since I paid in cash
So the total with tax was 1.6K
    BAZINGA!
I believe they still have some in stock left... I have seen a Large on the floor.
Now, should I go 26" or 650b? Which fork?

That's some fine CS there from the Path. I know for SURE that the major LBS here (which I won't name) would NOT pass that savings along to the customer. They would buy the discounted frames and sell them at regular price to make an even larger profit.

Lol these frames are already showing up on eBay and CL, like the red XL Butcher on eBay starting price $880 + $45 shipping. The parking lot price was about $700 shipped. Sad because I know I would've built mine up and used it.

You're probably better off anyway. Knowing you, you would've ordered on impulse, debated your purchase on the interwebs, blamed the manufacturer for not meeting your highly specific needs and then sell the frame to a forum member.

Or you would've rode it for a year then build something new. Regardless, you now have lots to post about. Carry on.

I got a Medium Red Blur LTc on the way. Got the tracking number a couple hours ago. Hope I love it as much as everyone else seems to. Going back to a 26" after a year on a 29". I just never felt as fast or confident on 29" wheels. I ride with a guy on a Mojo and he has been killing me on the technical stuff since I sold my Tracer VP.

Got my TRc and Chameleon today. I was shipped the wrong color TRc (orange instead of green) but I'm not sure that I can complain since both colors are sick.

All brand new, all sellers from CA. Some pretty darn good profit if they actually did buy from the sale, which is probably the case. I'm all for free enterprise but when bike companies see stuff like this they get upset and STOP offereing these kind of deals to the general public.

This much IS true as it seriously undercuts dealers.

I believe they offered these frames to their dealers before doing the sale. I don't see how people reselling them for more than the parking lot sale price would matter at all to them or impact the probability of them doing it again. If anything it helps keep the prices closer to what a dealer would be selling them for (undercuts dealers less).

Which fork?
I was at The Path yesterday (8/20/2012), and from what I recall there was a Large orange/white, Small green and XL green. There could have been more, but I didn't see them. I get dizzy staring at all the pretty frames hanging from the ceiling. All were priced at $1500, just like the VPLS.

Probably true, less people ordered the chameleons so they were easyer to ship and be done with.
So far my impression with SC's customer service has been very fast and helpful. I hope everyone else has a similar smooth transaction. My frame should be waiting for me in NC tommarow

I called SantaCruz and they said they let all the dealers know in advance to buy them before the VPLS.
If you find one listed on a reputable website on line it is probably the real deal.

Santa Cruz Bicycle doesn't practice good customer service. They don't care about their international customers with regards to having their VPLS, just pure business and sales. For as long as they are able to dispose all their 2012 model frames who gets them, legitimate bikers like you and me or EBAY/AMAZON/PINKBIKE businessmen, they don't care. Perhaps they should have also contacted their international distributors to spread the benefits of the sale to international customers like us.

A friend of mine here in the Philippines just bought a TRc frame last June 2012 at a regular price of around $ US 2,700.00. Boy oh boy he was totally pissed off when he learned of the sale (frame costs only US $ 1,500.00.). His frustrations grew even more when he learned he is not allowed to order another one for his girlfriend because the sale is for Canada and US customers only. But after the Santa Cruz frames overflew in EBAY/AMAZON/PINKBIKE and sold at least 20% higher, both of us became totally devastated. We have decided not to patronize Santa Cruz bicycles anymore here in the Philippines and would try out Specialized, Yeti, Scott or Ibis Mojo instead.

I ordered a medium Blur XC on Thursday morning and just received shipping confirmation a few hours ago! It seems like most people were going for the longer travel bikes but I'm in South Florida so a 4" XC carbon beauty is more than enough for the terrain down here. I'm stoked!

I'm not trying to be an ass, but its pretty clear that you really don't understand business operations or sales what-so-ever. Why don't you go ask folks in the UK or EU how much they pay for a FRAME and then tell me if you're still pissed you got one at the US MSRP. Quit ****ing whining and go ride something else . . .

Maybe one of the opportunistic a__holes, lowballers make your sweet offers now, all of you are certainly welcome. Remember the law of supply and demand, so those who weren't able to get one, don't bite the bullet just yet so to speak, they'll surely lower their prices later especially when all the new SC frames are made available in the market.

The reason why they cannot sell outside is to protect their international distributors and dealers as well as maintain their obligations under their respective agreements. Its a pity you will not patronize SC bikes anymore. I doubt that you will receive the same service and commitments to bike making from these other brands.

Hey if someone is willing to pay that much then good for you, you made a few quick bucks. My only concern is that Santa Cruz will stop these nice deals for the general public if they see people immediately flipping them for a profit. I know from experience that in other industries this kind of practice is highly discouraged, I also know of a local bike shop employee who was fired for buying bikes with his employee discount and reselling them for his own profit. But who knows, maybe Santa Cruz doesn't care.

Not sure if Santa Cruz is really going to care, the more that get bought and resold, the less frames they have to worry about warranting. As i understand it the warranty only applies to original purchaser.

True, it does only apply to the original purchaser. But here are some quotes from these other sellers' ads:

Does not include manufacturer 2 yr warranty as only applies to original owner (me) but willing to work with buyer to warranty any issues for the 2 yr warranty period.
( comes with original receipt from Santa Cruz dealership so you get full warranty )

Its not about shipping, they will charge you with how much it costs to ship. Its about protecting their international distributors. Would you buy an inventory of bikes in another country if you know the company sells direct for much less than you? I would not. In the US its their local territory. We are not talking about quantities that will affect the huge US/Canadian market.

You talk like they owe you something. They are a company that makes products and gets rid of inventory when new models are available. Like 90% of the other sport equipment companies out there.

My experience with their customer service so far was good.

I gotta tell ya, if i were s/c bikes i'd never do another sale like this again. I was a small business owner and sometimes it's more trouble than it's worth trying to give people a good deal.

Agreed. They just undersold ALL their dealers by selling direct, which sort of defeats the purpose of having dealers anyway.

They offered these frames and discounted price to their dealers first. The frames that they put on sale were the leftover frames that no dealers wanted.

What else were they supposed to do with all these frames? Throw them away?

I would be so angry if they threw them away without giving me the opportunity to buy it at a discounted price online.

The whole point of the sale was to make room for them. They also sold these frames to dealers before offering it to us. They also don't under cut dealers really since some of the dealers are just selling these frames for the same price right now as the VPLS. Which means the dealers probably paid less than we did.

I mean come on... it was a clearance sale. Have you guys never seen any store sell something on clearance? Go to the Deals forum and complain about all the good deals, lol.

    Blur LTc

Mine arrived today and I must say wow, an amazing frame!!! I was unaware that it came with 142 X 12 rear and ISCG tabs. Nice touch Santa Cruz! Also, great deal. Would have probably kept my 2010 aluminum version for years with out the VLPS.
