Highball C singlespeed - Anyone running one?

The Highball will be the next arrow in the quiver and I plan to run it singlespeed most of the time. (I'll switch back to gears for races) Anyone running one? What's your tensioner of choice?

I really like this one: Single Speed Tensioner Helium Components - Lightweight mountain biking solutions but the guy doesn't seem to want to sell them.

Just run a Singlulator and be done with it.

Very reliable and everyone knows they work.
I crashed hard enough on my Tallboy to break my leg,

I tried one of those things on my Giant XTC29er and I hated it. It's sprung. That makes sense on a full suspension bike but not a hardtail.

Not a fan of the "push the chain up against the frame" tensioners.

Have run the Surly on several bikes without issue. Currently have one in the wife's EMD.

Personally, I say if you want to run SS...buy a frame that can be run SS. Yeah, I wish tey made the HBc with the SS dropouts like the HBa....I'd be all over that.

    +1 all the way

I wish the HBc had some SS option, but you can't even run a BB30 ECB adapter. Frustrating.

If you wanna run mostly SS, why won't you choose an SS-capable frame? Like a Niner?

This looks like an interesting option...

    Phil Wood & Co.

I recall seeing a couple SS HBCs on the Highball build thread. At least one had figured out the "magic gear" combo so no tensioner was required.

I don't have the coin for two new bikes. I train and ride a SS most of the time and then like to convert the same bike to a 1x for racing, therefore I'm looking for one bike to do both.
I ride a TallBoy and want a bike that I can switch wheels to and from. My TallBoyc has a 12x142 rear axle, like the HighBallc. That's why my eyes are set on the HighBallc.

    Thanks for everybody's help.

Hi vuduvgn, I ran a Highball C in SS for 18mths. It is a super fast steed in SS. I ran it with a Phil Wood - philcentric. Imo that's the best for SS mode. It ran faultlessly through the dry, wet and muck. I did a lot of miles and it is mostly hard miles when you tally up all the mashing you do.

A quality product that gave no issues and allowed you to run a nice clean SS set up.

    Here's a couple of links

    Another good thread for you...
    highball build thread and pics

Apparently 30x20 and 31x19 are "magic gear" combos that will allow you to run SS on the HB without tensioners if it works for you and your terrain
