On Hecklers, always size up. I ride a medium for most bikes, but my large Heckler fits perfect (I'm 5'11", BTW).

$1400 seems like a decent deal on a new '10... last year's new is $2000 or more, depending on which build you choose.

Question for you Hecklers: Rear drop test on coil - does your back bounce like a pogo stick?

Im having hell of a time with my rear shock tuning.

    Nice colour.

Your bike looks great, is the wheels beefy enough?

    Hi to everyone.

Just a quick question on my SC.

Can anyone verify the correct model? As according to the label is a Heckler but i can not find any similar pictures on the Web!

    Much appreciated.

    Cheers!

From the look of the rear portion I would guess 04?

I see you're trying to sell this bike on Ebay. Your advertisment description is totally incorrect, and as you have a legal obligation to be completely honest, I trust you'll use the information provided.

I think it's a Heckler Super X from around '99, because it has disc mounts. The original Heckler had a fairly long production run, from '96 to 2000 I think, but only the later ones had disc mounts.

This one has had it's decals replaced, and is a different colour, but is otherwise identical to yours: 99 Santa Cruz heckler 16" | Retrobike

    Here's a '96 (frame) - '97 (swingarm) model: Santa Cruz Heckler 96-97 | Retrobike

Hi and thanks for your replay.

Not mine yet but thinking about purchasing it....

I had a look at the pictures and they are very different so clearly it's not a swing arm from 99...

But you probably right as they have sold them for a long time and a big number!

It's advertised fro 650 and seems to have very good good components specially the from suspension...

    Any thoughts on the price?

    Cheers!

Of course I'm right, you're tripping mate.

Besides colour, and perhaps frame size, the Heckler frame in both Retrobike threads I linked are exactly the same dude, not sure what pictures you're looking at. One is metallic blue, a very popular Santa Cruz colour (my 03 Heckler was this colour), and the other is black with a polished swingarm. All three examples are the same model, which is pre-2000.

This is the wrong thread for buying advice... I don't think it's a particularly good deal. It's very old, mtb's don't have a very long life span, even well-maintained single-pivot designs. Parts like forks, brakes, and drivetrain have an even shorter lifespan. Also, the forks don't suit the frame; you've got 7" up front and 4" in the rear, you want the same travel front and rear.

It does lighter in the pics, but the blue is exactly as its shown on their site. Definitely a nice/different blue. I just wished it came w/the white graphics.

    Old Dog, New Bling

I've just upgraded the old Heckler in the last 6 months.
    2004 Frame.
    New bits:
Rockshox Sektor solo air 150mm (replaces 2005 Pike coil)
Fox RP23 rear shock (replaces Fox DHX5 coil)
RaceFace Deus double crankset (replaces RaceFace Diabolus cranks)
XTR rear deraileur (replaces worn out XT)
XTR front 15mm hub (replaces 20mm XTR hub)
Rockshox reverb seatpost (replaces Thomson - still used for XC races)
Specialized Phenom expert saddle (repalces fizik Gobi - always gave me a sore bum!)
Easton Haven stem 70mm (replaces Thomson 90mm & RaceFace Diabolus 50mm)
Easton Haven aluminium bar (replaces Easton Scandium DH)
ESI foam grips (replaces ODI lock-ons)
    Converted wheels to tubless.
Crank Brothers Eggbeater 3 pedals (replace old Crank Bros Candys)

Total weight 28lbs (used to weigh about 34lbs)
Was considering getting a whole new bike but couldn't afford a carbon frame and this one stills ride so nicely.

WOW, that's the best looking Heckler I've seen in a long time. I had one of the newer versions and I still prefer the more teutonic look of that version. The swingarm just looks so beefy, etc. I like the grey color too.

Now I can stare at her all the time

My buddy got me into riding a year ago after a spin around a local trail. One lap on his XC Fisher hardtail and one on his Rocky Mountain Switch, I was hooked. He recommended the Heckler as something I could use XC and into DH as I learned. A week later I found a medium at an LBS and have been loving it and riding ever since.

Well, there was a brief hiatus after I broke myself on SoMo 5 months later. I realized the only way I could stay connected to biking well recovering was to make a few upgrades. She's not quite done, but getting there.

    '11 Heckler, Medium
    Fork: Marzocchi 55 RV
    Shock: Fox DHX 5.0 Coil
    Crankset: Raceface Turbine
    Cassette: PG 990
Headset: 1.5 degree angle set Ofanaim/ Cane Creek S-3
    Shifter: Deore (stock)
Derailers front and rear: SLX (stock)
    Brakes: Avid Juicy (stock)
Front Wheel/ Tire: Mavic SX/ Maxxis Minion DH (tubeless)
Rear Wheel/ Tire: Mavic SX/ Maxxis High Roler (tubeless)
Handlebars: Kore Torsion (cut to 750mm)
Grips: Lizard Skin Peaty, ODI bar ends.
    Stem: Thomson 50
    Seatpost: Raceface Ride (stock)
    Seat: WTB Pure V
    Pedals: Wellgo MG-1

I've got to stop on the upgrades right now as I am short on funds, but those pesky stock parts will be gone soon. Don't know the weight either as I'm a guy and don't own a scale.

I also just finished building the display, so I can have her on the wall of my living room when were not out. She's too pretty not to look at all the time.

    Functional art.
