I have slightly more anxiety buying a used carbon mt. bike on ebay. For all you guys out there with new carbon santa cruz bikes, what is wearing out first on the frames? I hear the bottom bracket is subject to abuse if it's not covered. Looking for some advice. I might save up and get a new one next year.
I work at a Santa Cruz, and most of the wear and tear is down at the lower pivot, and on the driveside chainstay. If you buy used, just make sure the seller wrapped his chainstay. That is the most critical area. Other than that, as long as tere are no huge gashes anywhere, those frames will last a long time.
Cool, thanks for the info. I'll ask to see if he wrapped his chain stay. Rode a LTC in crested butte over the summer at a SC demo, loved it. Going from a 4X blur to a LTC. Even though I still love the 4X it's time for a new bike.
