"The Blur XC Carbon accepts 100-120mm forks.
We wanted the Blur XC Carbon to be confidence inspiring and race ready at the same time, so we designed it to have a 69.5 degree head angle with a 100mm (471mm axle-crown) fork. The bike can be ridden quite aggressively with this setup, with no weight compromises. This is probably the size fork you would want for xc racing.
We definitely wanted to be able to use a 120mm fork on this bike though, and made it accordingly strong. For riding or even racing in rockier terrain, a 120mm fork is pretty fun.
Please don't use a fork over 120mm of travel, as it does exert more force on the frame than it was designed to handle. This also voids your warranty. The geometry will get pretty funny with a longer fork, so you wouldn't really want to do it anyway."
100mm fork.
I have one. I've had conversations w/ SC...100mm is the max.
Anything longer voids the warrantee. If that is not an issue, I've seen posts of people going longer.
I don't think it is a particularly strong frame, so anything longer may be asking for trouble.
What I did, and this may sound strange, is put a 650b wheel on the front. If you have a fox fork, it will fit, no problem. It was the best mod I ever made to the bike. Made it a much better trail bike, while still good for the occasional xc race.
Thanks. I also asked the folks at Santa Cruz and got different answers. The frame is 2006 vintage, and according to SC uses a 650 x 1.5 for the Small frame, which is what we have. They naturally were adamant that a 100mm is the longest travel fork to use on it.
It's a great frame. You'll love it. It feels more plush than the specs would suggest, and it has lightening quick handling and climbs like a scalded cat.
