    hey Mestapho, had a quick question. The new frame came with an aluminum upper link. I still have my old frame's carbon link, wondering if you know why they have two variations and if it's safe to switch them out? I know your new frame came with a carbon one so I'm a bit confused at their choices or is it just random. Thanks in advance.

    Edit: never mind sorry, i just backtracked a few pages and read a few posts regarding the aluminum vs carbon link. Sorry, should have did some homework first

    You should be able to swap it out. Willie told me to keep it for a back-up.
    It is weird that they aren't consistent.
    I may have just gotten some of the old stock they were trying to get rid of.

    Would be interested to see the weight difference. My thought is they are just trying to reduce the cost.

    You should be totally fine with that ratio. I run 34/36 on a 1x10 and would remain with that or go up a tooth or two if I were to run 1x11 and I am no beefcake. We ride a lot here, but I'm a feather weight with minor muscle mass.

    In either case, starting at that ratio is probably a best bet for someone unsure with a 1X setup. Enjoy!

    Any advice from people running these parts on their trc?

Not sure if the trc will replace my Slayer yet, I may find a way to justify both. As long as they are the same color, the wife won't notice!

I've been trying for a balance between strength/stiffness and weight savings. I'll hopefully get it on a scale in the next week or two.

    I have a new TRC on the way too, I am reducing my 150 talas to 140, as the general consensus is it will handle better. Also keeps you in warranty.

    What size frame have you got? I'd be very interested on how the 65mm stem feels, I am trying 75mm, but think it may make the cockpit a little cramped. I think the Haven stem is a great choice, pretty much decided on that for mine too.

    A good rim for the TRC is the Spank Oozy rim. I put a set on as they were only 25 grms a rim heavier then the Dt400 however they are 21 mm internal width so I can run my 2.5 tires still. The oobla tech makes they really stiff, they feel about the same as the Dt500's I have on my nomad.

    Large and I am 6' tall (short torso and long limbs). I find "long" stems (over 70mm) on slack bikes are a bad combo. Top tubes are getting longer on newer designs so riders can run shorter stems and I agree it improves the ride. Check out Mondraker bikes; they run 0mm (zero!) stems on some models.

    An alternative to longer stems is a wider bar which is all the rage here in BC.

    Brand new build. I have had the eastons for some time, but they are practically brand new.
    I am going to ride the 650b enve first and if I like the setup, I will most likely sell the easton wheels.
    Will try them soon and let you know.

    150 mm fork voiding warranty?

    Rageday, the TRc FAQ on the SCB website used to state;

    "Maximum fork height for the TRc is 519mm (Rockshox Revelation 140). Anything taller than this will void the warranty".

    It doesn't say this anymore! I guess you could assume that they have removed that restriction and 150mm would be worth a go, if you're preapred to compromise on handling qualities? Anyone else running 150mm?

    Just got my trc few hours ago,transfer all parts from my blt2 aluminium. But need to change the handlebar to easton haven carbon,existing is ritchey superlogic super low rise.
    Weight at 10.7kg small frame.

    We've been getting a fair amount of rain lately, so I have only been able to take the bike out twice with the DBA and I am still adjusting it. Here are my thoughts at this point: I would say the DBA is more supple over small stuff and square edge hits. While the RP23 is definitely a good shock on the TRc I would say there was still a slight harshness on fast blunt hits while the DBA seems pretty smooth. With the RP23 I always seemed to use 80-90% of the travel no matter the trail while the DBA travel use seems to vary per trail. I don't know if that's really an issue as long as the suspension feels good. That being said I have to say the DBA almost feels bottomless. I hope that helps. As I get more time on it I'll keep you guys posted.

    I have a side entrance cage and use/d a 20oz. Polar bottle, but with the DBA there is no way it's going to fit. (I'm guessing the Polar's are about the same size/shape as a standard bottle?) If I can find a bottle about the same length as the cage than I think it will fit. I'm currently looking at the child size bottles. I ditched my backpack for shorter rides and I have been loving the feeling of riding without one so I would hate to go back. Mounting the shock the other ways won't work because the extra chamber would significantly press into the water bottle upon suspension compression or would hit the frame if it were moved so it sat above the shock.

    Hey Rage-day, thanks. i'm running tubeless right now with Rocket Rons. Sidewalls are quite thin so I have to watch out on the rocky sections, but loving the light wheel/tire feel.

    I have the 120/150 talas and i'm thinking the same, but don't want to go 110. I like the feel of the 120, but also want to utilize 140 as well. I might just get a 130 float later.

    I have my LBS's 140mm TRC and it flows really well on singletrack and downhill. I guess I am just wondering if the 150mm fork will make much difference to the flow. I am hoping it will be good for the downhill and 120mm for the ups will make it the best of both worlds. I am not sure going to 140/110 is necessarily a good option as the 110mm for ups may not be as good as the 120mm option.

    Will let you know when mine is built and have ridden it.

    i never tried it on the 150mm setting yet, but since someone posted that the SC faq page took out the 140mm suggested max, I'm going to give it a shot. the 120mm feels great especially on the ups, but I'm definitely going to experiment with the 150 tomorrow.

    Hope you get your bike together soon!

    Kdiff, how is it on 150mm setting, especially on the climbs? I imagine it's great for downhill.

    I've got a Talas on my TRc. The 150 setting certainly does wander on the climbs, but it is far better than 120 on the decents. I don't think I would go down to 140/110 though, don't think 110 would be good for much. As SC claims, 130 is probably the best all around front travel, or 140 for more aggressive riding IMO.

    I don't find that it's bad on the climbs. When I hit a really really steep spot I drop my saddle to mid-height and lean forward and I have little problems with wandering. I don't think 20mm in fork height would make a difference at this point. It's a little tough when I hit some taller rocks on a really steep section. I think it climbs better than my Bur LT2 with a 120-150 Talas. There's a local trail where you climb about 6 miles then turn around and go back down. It has two really steep sharp corners where I have encountered people with more XC-ish bikes walking those sections and I can ride them. During the rest of the climb I never think my front is wandering. This might be a more subjective thing based on riding style and trail, but those are my thoughts.

    On descents it's a beast with a 150mm fork.

    Admittedly, I am curious what it would be like with a 130mm fork since that's what SC told me the "sweet spot" is.

    Thanks for feedback. Do you adjust your Talas to 120mm for the ups, or just leave it at 150mm most of the time?

    I think you are right about technique, I have been riding my 110mm fork Marin for 6 years, but have managed to keep up with my friends riding 150's on downhills, I've just had to improve my technique.

    Not sure clearance will be great with a 130, I get pedal strikes with the 140 fork and am also hoping the 150 will help with that as well.

    I found, activating the pro pedal reduces pedal strikes on really rocky ascents. Flat areas and descents I can afford to pay more attention. Or back pedal to avoid strikes.
    Sc got my black and orange on Dec. 21. It weighed 28lb. I'm gonna take my time rebuilding it. I'd be happier with it in the 26lb. range.

    Fork - 150, as low as it will go...

    Headset spacers, Picked them up at the local shop...No name brand, powder coated, could not pass them up.

    Might as well post it up. First ride today, not the best conditions for railing a berm, but had fun anyway.

    I forgot to take a picture of it put together, so a cell pic in the snow is as good as it gets.

    I do need to work on chain retention though...that was irritating.

    Its arrived

    My medium 2013 TRc build, 25lbs on the dot with further upgrades later. The fork is a 2013 150mm Revelation RCT3 Solo Air which I'll upgrade mid-year to a 2013 World Cup 140 mm Solo Air. Should be able to get a good feel for the two different travels.

    Can't wait to try the XX1 (32T x 10-42T). I need to sort out the stack height and I'll post better pics and ride impressions after a few rides. Oh and the dominant white theme keeps my girlfriend (and financier) happy....

    How would a 120mm Reba work out on the TRC? I have one from my Tazer VP so I would like to use that until I figure on a fork to run 27.5/26.

    Hi quickneonrt, The Trc is amazing with a 120mm fork. Super fast, so so stable, super nimble and just blindingly quick in steering, switch backs, tight stuff - a real hoot. You won't be disappointed.

    You can still do steeps and rough and jumps (of course more suspension will always let you do more or do more more quickly, but you'll be surprised). On smooth jumps, it's actually very good because the BB is lower again like a jump bike. You may get pedal strikes depending on your style and skill level though, never really bothered me on even rough downhill courses. 120mm is worth the experience, but in the end I am happier with 130mm setting as a little more opens out the bikes capabilities some more. I reckon nothing corners better than a Tr with a 120mm though. Every adjustment has it's trade offs.... Go for it and enjoy while deciding on your next move, it will give you some ride data/info to consider to. Cheers

    Does anyone run a clutch rear derailer? If so, do you find you need to wrap the chainstay or run a protector? I see there is some sort of built in wrap on the frame but is it tough enough?

    I use a Shadow+ r.d. and I still wrap the chainstay. You probably don't have to, but I figure that the extra protection on an expensive carbon frame is a good idea. I also use a cytoe skid plate and some clear tape where cable rub or heel rub can occur.

    I have the BB plate as well, but removed it after 2 rides. It slighlty rubs the frame, it has happend on my TB too, but the new upgraded plate is better. I don't think he has upgraded the plate for TRc though...

    The new TRc plate wraps the down tube more and the back *should* not touch the pivot. Can someone with the new rev plate verify this? Unfortunately, I don't have a TRc frame to check against at the moment.

    I run a TRc with a 125mm Revelation. Since I bought it to replace my old FS trail bike (Turner XCE), it has worked out well. Not as quick as the old bike, but pretty good. I do not think I would like the TRc as much with more travel, but I will eventually install a 140mm fork (Marz 44) that I have just to check it out. Anyways, I find the 125mm is just what I want on the bike. It seems to be a very versatile frame as far as front travel goes.

    Why 125mm? The Rev came as 150mm. 25mm spacer is what I had in stock, so there you go.

    I can verify that the new one does not. Speaking of the plates, I did make a slight modification to mine the other day when I was able to borrow a friends heat gun. I increased the bend between the lowest bottle mount right before the first plate pad. This means you have to press the plate a little firmer and bend the plate slightly when attaching it, but it is nice and tight on the pad and so far I haven't heard any plate slap on fast rocky sections. As far as rub, I've ran the old style plate and now use the new plate and have no rub marks.

    I use an XTR clutch derailleur (2x10) and have gotten some slight chain slap marks only on that metal plate right by the chain ring over a couple of months. (The clutch firmness has been untouched, so that may be able to be dialed out, though I doubt it just because of the proximity of that plate to the chainring.) I put some surfboard foot grip on it and it still looks fairly untouched.

    I don't plug to many specific products but that plate cytoe makes is pretty cool. I was running the old plate the other day and it worked perfectly when I had an encounter with a fallen tree. The plate has a scrape mark down it but my linkage and etc. is clean.

    I purchased the plate for the TRc on August 18th 2012. Was it already upgraded?

    I also used to have the previous one for a TB, which rubbed and got an upgraded later, which works good, no rubbing.

    I stuck some padded mounting tape on mine to silence the rattling. The rattling only seemed to occur when the suspension was not compressed, like during a hike-a-bike.

    The new alu TR would have been a good opportunity to have replaceable dropouts, so you could easily convert to 650b or different axle standards.

    Well looks like I am switching my order.
    Just the 2 pound weight difference doesn't make sense. Usuall it's 1/2 or a pound most difference between carbon and al SC frames

    I was noticing some rear end flex that would result in brake howl when I cornered with my XCc, and when I moved over to a TRc, it was the same. I moved to a DTSwiss 10mm axle, converted my then AC hubs to take it and the howl went away.

    Now have upgraded wheels with CK hubs which also take a 10mm thru axle. I have converted my road bike to DTSwiss RWS skewers too, much better than qr skewers imo.

    Its 25lbs, but needs tubeless conversion with ikon exo 3c. Apparently the version of ikons i was sent are impossible to do tubeless, but i have run the exo3c without tubes with no issue for ages now on american classic rims.

    My frame showed up. Took less then an hour to rebuild it. Previous weight was over 28.5lbs. So I decided to lose some. To my surprise 23.90. Bam shocked!!! It came with an aluminum upper link. But was told I could keep the one on my first frame. So I weighed the carbon linkage vs the aluminum. The carbon is 15 grams lighter.

    I lowered my 140 to 130 and I measure 14cm of stanchion. Not sure if it measured 15cm before. I want to make sure that I'm actually lowering my A-C.

    I have a 32 float 140 on mine and the seal to crown is 15cm. You are lowering your a-to-c.

    Hits to the Lower Link

    Even though I've adjusted to the lower BB and suspension I still hit the lower link on the non-drive side once in awhile. I fixed this initial/early damage by sanding lightly and filling in with epoxy resin (purchased from an auto parts store). Finished with some black nail polish. Since then it's held up well to a few other hits...

    I have the skidplate but it's not a perfect solution as I too have a chip missing from the lower link, the skidplate would need to wrap around slightly to protect this area, it does do a great job of protecting the front triangle though.

    I'm always looking to improve the design. If I add 1/8" to each side, would it there be any chain clearance issues?

    That is a pretty cool idea - first time I've heard of this link/frame protection. Also like Shelter Tape and the Plate from Cytoe (but already spent my budget on the TRc for now so I'm sticking to the epoxy fix and maintenance for the near future.)
