06' Blur XC (26er): Tallest (& widest) tire? Colo. XC-terrain?

Currently running a 2.1 Panaracer Fire XC Pro that is wearing out.
I really like how it works, but wondering about a taller tire (to get closer to 27.5") that will also fit in the rear? FSA mtb xc150 wheelset.

What are my options that fit and feedback on how they work?
I ride alot of varied terrain but mostly flowy single track.
Sometimes Moab. Sometimes Fruita. Sometimes XC & DH in the mtns.
    Live on the front range.

I have a Fox F100 up front so most anything will fit i think.

    thnx bill

Reading between the lines here, are you saying you're already running the 2.1 650 Fire XC now? And want something taller? What is your clearance now?
    Pix would help some too.
Wait, who did he tell you that?....

? no need to read between the lines. i have a 26" wheel with a 2.1 Fire XC.
i like the tread design and how it works just want a taller tire to replace it.
just wonder what other 26er Blur XC riders are using for a tall & wide tire?
    thnx.

OK. Got it now. You had mentioned 27.5 which they make in that size. Usually people run them on 650b conversions for best clearance, thus my inference. Thought you had additional space on your Blur and was looking for the bigger 27.5 tire.

Universal Cycles -- Interloc FireXC Pro Tires

As for a tire to come close to that pattern, a ride buddy just picked up a set of 26" tires from Performance that were pretty close. Can't recall if major or a house brand. They work pretty well and inexpensive.
Wait, who did he tell you that?....

Have you looked at the Maxxis Ardent 2.25" EVO tire? I run the 650B version on my Blur LT (I ride in Boulder, Lyons, Loveland, etc) and I love it. It's fast rolling, fairly wide for a rear tire, and IMO it's taller than most other tires. In terms of clearance, you can fit just about anything you want back there.

Up front, I'd recommend the Maxxis Minion DHF 2.35" or 2.5" (they run slightly narrow). It's the best 26" tire I've used for Front Range riding (Moab and Fruita too), hands down.

Obviously there's lots of 'bigger' 26" tires the OP can run. Doesn't sound like 650 is what is asked. No jab to your post smmokan. Being a 650B'r myself, yours sound like a great trail setup!

He could also look into some of the WTB line such as the 26" 2.2 Wolverine as a rr tire(sort of like an Ardent pattern wouldn't you say?) and either the Vigilante or Moto for up front.

No, I get it... I was recommending the 26" version of those tires (Ardent and Minion DHF).

IME, the Ardent is a taller/bigger tire than the 2.2" Wolverine, but they both make great rear tires for our terrain out here.

i'm not exclusive to using a Fire XC Pro, just I liked it.
i'd use any 26" tire that worked well for Colorado XC conditions.
i just am looking for the tallest 26" tire that fits in the 26" blur frame.
my current tire is 2.1 and i'd go wider too.

so what is the widest tire that fits the rear?
i think i read 2.3" is the max and then it rubs.

Yeah I was really typing out loud from my earlier comment(s) to the OP re: 650's. For sure the Ardent would be a great tire and probably be maxed out for clearance on the XC Blur if they are bigger than the Wolverine.

So try a Wolverine in 2.2 or Ardent in 2.25. If you're more XC than trail, the Wolverine will roll abit faster. If more aggressive conditions the Ardent will fit the bill as smmokan recommended for the rear. I can only comment on the Wolverine, but from what I've seen on here not too many people like running either of these tires up front.

    YRMV of course.

thanks for the feedback. much appreciated!
i'll check out those tire options.
i know the 2.1 26" Fire XC Pro was/is a great all around tire back in the day, but i figured better ones have come along since.

love my Blur and it works so not gonna spend the $ on a whole new 650b bikes.
thought a taller tire would get closer to 27.5" tire height.
