Ultegra + 2x10 XT = compatible or not?

    Quick question guy,
It may have been ask before but couldn't find on the search function

Will the 10 speed Ultegra shifter work with the new 2x10 XT derailleurs?
I am asking because I am considering this combo on my touring bike setup

    TIA,

Mountain 10spd and road 10spd from Shimano are not compatible with each other. The mountain stuff now is closer to 1 to 1 ratio and road stuff is still 2- 1 cable pull ratio.

No, but if you use a 9 speed Shimano MTB rear derailleur all will be well.

Note also that the road STI levers do not pull enough cable for the MTB front derailleurs. Your options are either to use a road front derailleur, or a non-indexed front shifter, such as a barcon.

(Or you could use SRAM, whose 10 speed road and MTB stuff is inter-compatible.)

    Thanks a lot,
The SRAM thing was supposed to be my next question

The SRAM thing would mean solve my problem but that would mean and bigger investment to make :-(

Though, I already have a 9 speed DuraAce thumb shifter, It is mounted on a WTB mountain drop bar with lever pointing outward. I just worry that it may easily breaks in a sudden fall or even just leaning the loaded bike on a wall...

I guess the cheaper option for me is to mount the shifter on the downtube mounting location

The Ultegra 6700 10 speed works fine with the XT M77(0,1,2) and the XTR M97(0,1,2) "9" speed rear mechs. I've had both setups. As mentioned you must run a road front mech. And as mentioned avoid mixing anything Dyna-Sys with Shimano Road.
