    Size question for 2013 Horsethief

5'11" with normal proportions. Looking at a closeout 13 Horsethief 1 at about $2100 shipped for a top notch parts kit, and it seems to be a pretty large bike. None available locally so can't throw a leg over, I've compared it to others that I've ridden but can't decipher that info very conclusively.

Are there any 5'11" riders out there riding a large horsethief (2013 or before)? If so, did you slap a shorter stem on it (I couldn't find original stem length, but would like to know). How does it fit? I'm a bit concerned that it'll be too big, even if I downsize the stem.

Horsethiefs come with a short stem to begin with, so you might not need to make any changes there. It's a big bike, mainly because of its long wheelbase. I'm 5'7" and right on the edge between a small and medium. I went with the small for maneuverability. It seems like you're a "tweener" for medium and large. You might shoot Salsa an email or give them a call. They're usually very helpful.

I am 5'11" with a 33 inseam and test rode a medium 13 Horsethief a while ago. Fitted me perfectly, a large would have been way too big.

I am 5'11" and weigh 160 lbs. I have slightly longer arms and legs.

My friend has a large Horsethief and it is a bit big for my taste. I can easily ride the large Horsethief, but I prefer a tighter bike and would go for a medium myself. I personally have a 2012 Spearfish 2 in Medium.

Getting a shorter stem would certainly help and $2,100 shipped is a killer good deal for the specs.

I'm 6'2" tall with a 34" inseam. I had the chance to compare a 2013 Spearfish large vs. extra large last weekend and, although I could ride both, the XL felt more comfortable.

I'm toying with the idea of picking up one of the last few 2013 Horsethieves from UC because the price just seems so good. My question is, if I felt more comfortable on the XL Spearfish, would I also likely feel more comfortable on the XL Horsethief as compared to the large? I exchanged a few emails with Salsa and looked at their geometry chart and the end result seemed to be that I was right on the cusp between L and XL.

Any similarly proportioned HT riders on an XL and like it?

I'm 6' with 33.5" inseam and the medium Horsethief fits great. I added 30mm riser bars for a little more comfort. I debated on getting the large but happy with the medium.
