Cool-blue Rhythm Let's see your Warbirds

After completing the DK200 last weekend on my Vaya (which performed beautifully) I find myself lusting over a Warbird. I need to see your Warbird pictures and builds so I can keep my fantasy stoked. Let's see 'em!

I can report that the red Warbird 2 is gorgeous in person. The shop didn't have my size though, so I didn't get it to ride it. But I hope to see some photos from people as well!

Congratulations, your big ass bike looks awesome. IMO bikes for very tall fellas often look gangly but yours still manages to look well proportioned.

Can anyone comment on the Warbird sizing? I can't get it local here and will have to order out without trying the food first.

I'm about 6'1" and normally ride a L 19-20" frame. I'm not sure how they fit but am torn between a 56 and 58.

Thought I'd share some pictures of my new Warbird. I got the 2015 Ti complete build back in November after doing a bunch of research. The Warbird frame was simply a better fit for me than anything else out there. I even explored custom, but the Warbird checked all the boxes and there was just nothing to improve on, so custom didn't make sense.

I live on the Colorado Front Range, and my intended use is endurance rides on dirt roads to the east and in the mountains to the west, even a little single track. So far the Warbird is proving great for everything.

I like to buy frames and build up my own bikes, but the stock build Salsa put together on their Ti build was close to perfect, so I went with it. All I've changed has been seatpost, saddle, and stem for fit purposes. Also, I put on a SRAM 11-36 cassette along with an old M952 derailleur that I rebuilt, which works great with the Ultegra 10 speed shifters and has the capacity for the large cassette. This gives me a 36x36 low gear, which I need for extending climbs in the mountains.

The ride quality is outstanding, and the Clement/Iron Cross combo was easy to set up tubeless. The ability to fit a tangle bag plus three bottle cages was a huge selling point for me too. I'm really loving this bike!

I got my Ti Warbird (described in the previous post) in size 56 cm. I'm 6'0" with a 32" inseam, it's a good fit for me. Being a mountain biker who has never owned a road bike, I got my Warbird set up with a more upright position than many would run though, I have a 90 mm stem with 30 degrees of rise.

Someone my height who likes a more stretched out position might do well with a 58 cm frame? Another FYI, I run 74 cm between the center of the BB spindle and the top of the saddle on all my bikes, including my Warbird. In the pictures in the previous post, note how low the saddle is. On a larger frame it would have been ridiculously low.

Seriously fun bike!!! Love mine! Obviously it needs to be cleaned.
I know I'm weird having built it as a flat bar. Mine is a 53cm frame while my Vaya is a 55cm.
Tires are Conti Travel Contacts. Very fast rolling. In all the years I ridden these I have never flatted.

The handlebar is the Salsa Bend 2 with an Easton EA90 stem. Carbon bar ends and stem spacers.
The wheels are from my Vaya with Dt Swiss X470 rims.
Avid BB7 Mtn calipers with SRAM levers.
All housings and cables are Jagwire.
XT rear d and SLX front d. XT Chain. SRAM 11-32 cassette.
Crank is SLX double with 38-26 dynasys chainrings.
    BB is RaceFace PF30.
I found the Alpha Q carbon seat post on ebay for $7.

    Hi BHRuss,
What is the location in your 2nd pic? Looks like a fun place to ride.
Which Clement tires are you using? I have the MSO's on my Vaya and really like them.

    Awesome
That looks like the lot/stop up by Crazy Horse. I'll be out there in June for the Gold Rush Gravel event and we're spending the following week at Stockade lake campground in the camper. Already have our our 2015 Mick passes and the wife will have her orange Warbird on the mick for the first time. Last time out she was on her 1st gen Fargo.

Right on- there is a 2.5 mile spur off the mick to stockade so I would recommend that to the mick if you're doing any mick riding.

I'm doing the Gold Rush too! Should be a fun time

We used that spur for riding to the Mick and into town for Dairy Queen last time we were out.

I met a guy at that same stop who was riding the full Mick out and back from Deadwood one of the days we were there.

I'm new to the Gold Rush (doing the 110) but am pretty pumped for it as I've ridden a few of those road on my Moto and it's just beautiful.

Yeah, if you're trying you can do the Mick from Deadwood to Edgemont in around 6 hours. although I've never done it.

Gold Rush is going to be a lot of elevation gain and with the new motherlode 210 this year with over 12,000 feet of gain- it will be interesting to see.

I haven't decided yet, the 70 or 110. We had a fat bike race out there a couple weeks ago in the same area and up to cement ridge lookout- it was super fun. Don't forget the Dakota Five-O either

It's a brilliant bike with the CX1. Basically a mountain bike with drop bars and narrow tyres. Gets ridden everywhere.

    Hi All,

I m new to the forum. I just recently purchased this Warbird3. I originally went in to buy a Vaya and rode the 2 and 3. Saw the WB sitting there and was really drawn to the color.. I almost wrote it off due to lack of rack mounts. Until I rode it. and rode it again. and rode the Vaya again. Came home with this. Got about 60 miles on her so far and still grinning ear to ear. No picture does the color of this bike justice. It is litterally like a Highlighter yellow. Anywhoo. Nice to meet you all

Has anyone successfully mounted a rack to a Warbird? Are the ones that mount to the QR bolts worth a damn?

I haven't done it on mine but this link would have everything you need to do it
    https://www.bikebagshop.com/rack-accessories-c-89.html

I'd guess it'd work just fine, you may need to make modifications depending on the rack but I think you could get there easy enough

Hopefully it's not too messy up there. I rode my moto out last weekend and did a lap of the course and it was in pretty good shape overall.

    Love that color.
I bought a Crazy Creek Hex chair this weekend. It mounts perfectly. Chair is pretty comfortable and nice after a long ride to not sit on rocks and grass.Let's see your Warbirds-img_1697_n.jpg

Here's mine. Had it for a week and love it.

The stock wheels and tires were fine - keeping those for road/gravel use.

This setup is a bit more for occasional single track. LB Carbon/DT350 with Bruce Gordon Rock n' Road 43mm tires.

Any more reports on the Carbon warbird, really thinking of ditching my Vaya for something much lighter. Did the short route of the Ten Thousand here in IL this weekend and it got old humping that heavy thing up those hills. Thinking if I can drop around 10lb it would make a huge difference.

how's the rear clearance with those 43mm tires? I thought it was 44mm up front and 42mm in the rear? How about a ride report dagnabit?! Some of us are curious!

There is plenty of clearance in the front, rear is pretty tight if I were to ride in muddy conditions.

I was looking to get one this spring to, until I talked to a few dealers and emailed Salsa and said it would be hard to come across one for quite some time. That's why I went with a leftover 2015 ti-bird.

    Rastabird is mighty fine !!!
    Here is my build

    2015 Warbird 58
    Ultegra 11s
Sram rear 11-36 cassette *ultegra long cage clears it
    Grails
    TRP hy/rd's
    WTB Nanos

Love the Warbird, I have a back up wheelset that has slicks so it can double duty as a road bike in case the trials are blown out. Road, single track, fire roads, gravel, more road, back to fire trials to hit some single track, 20 mile road ride back home, you guys know the drill.

New Warbird Ti owner here with a few minor modifications from stock. This bike is so close to perfect out of the box, but had to change a few things largely based on fit and preference. Now if only we'd get a little blue sky.

I went to my LBS to buy a 29+ tube for my summer Mukluk setup. I accidentally bought a 2013 Warbird 2 that they'd heavily discounted. Uh. And the tube.

Turns out, the Warbird is really fast compared to the Mukluk, in case anyone was wondering.

Anybody looking for a 55cm warbird carbon frame, the black/rasta frame, get at me, and i can get you in touch with my bike shop. I asked the owner the other day if the frame was for sale, long story short, its a build that didn't happen, so he would like to sell the frame.

Dang, that turquoise is purty! I had a tough time choosing between Warbird and Cutthroat, but I went Cutthroat for added bike packing (Tour Divide maybe??) versatility. Still waiting on the frameset though...

The new carbon warbird frames will take a 44c. This means the venerable Bruce Gordon Rock 'N Roads (by panaracer) fit!

Curious about the newer Warbirds with fender mounts. I see that the bowed seat stays don't have a bridge, which is generally an attachment point for fenders. Has anyone put fenders on one of these bikes, and if so, how did you secure it at the seatstays?

Looks like the factory Salsa fenders have a bridge that zip ties in place: http://salsacycles.com/files/tech/16...nt_INST_V6.pdf

I don't think of myself as a "purple" person, but there is a purple Warbird 105 in the window of my LBS that has me sorely tempted. They have the special "Brooks" edition, too. Awesome looking bikes.

Question about front derailleur exit port on the CF Warbirds..

I just got a Warbird yesterday, my first bike with internal cable routing.

Should the exit port for the front derailleur cable have a grommet, or something? Or does it stay just like this? Seems weird to leave it like this, like it would get packed with grime.

    Are they all like this?

there are some sexy bikes in this tread.

i've been thinking of replacing my alu gravel thing and cf roadie machine with a Warbird. curious... has anyone tried 650b wheels with 2' tires in their Warbird? i would love it if i could switch between a 40mm-ish 700c and 2 inch-ish 650b setup.
