Found a crack on my Spearfish

Found a crack in the non drive chainstay of my 12 Spearfish 2 while lubing up my BB for the 10th time. Sent pics to my LBS who got me a new frame coming in no time! I should have it early next week! Thanks to my shop and to Salsa for acting so quickly to resolve this issue!

Wouldn't it be awesome if they sent me a 2014 as a replacement? Not holding my breath on that one.

That just looks like tyre rub? Where's the crack?

It's most obvious in the second pic. It's to the left edge of the weld. 2.55's don't fit!

Do you know why Salsa opted to send out the new frame vs the rear triangle?

Plus then they can get rid of the old stock.

I was a little surprised Salsa still had frames from 2 years ago, and I would have been disappointed in a green or black swingarm on there! Either way I'm stoked they took care of the issue so quickly and with a complete frame!

1st ride back was Sunday at Bluff Creek Ranch in Warda, TX. Got in 16 miles, had a great time, and the new frame performed flawlessly! The rear felt stiff again and tracked like new, something I didn't realize had changed. It makes me wonder how long it had been cracked... Either way it was good to be back on the Fish!

I'M kind of hopping if mine is going to go its after they run out of old stock. It would be cool to get a new one with the DW link. I wonder if you could have gotten them to upgrade you for a fee. But then you would need a new crank rear wheel and fork.

I really like your set-up. I'm hoping to build mine similar. Any idea what your bike weighs in at?

Just went to a x9 type 2 and ditched the chain guide. It was 26.2 I believe before the switch. I've also swapped Elixer 7's for XT brakes. It probably balances out!

What fork length were you running? What cranks do you have? I'm getting a creak when I stand up and hammer (I SS mainly). I have a SP1. What happened to your old frame. I got a warranty frame from Niner and the LBS allowed me to keep the old one. It was sawed in half and is now hanging on the garage wall.

Its a 100mm Oem Fox RL off of a new Trek Superfly (51mm offset), with a X9 BB30 crank. Salsa asked for my frame... No trophy.
