    El Mariachi BB spacer question

Bike is a 2013 El Mariachi. My BB was a bit loose so I took it off for cleaning/lubing/re-torquing. My BB shell is 73 mm the SRAM GXP BB had two spacers on the same side. Sram states that a 73 mm bottom bracket uses no spacers?? Any wisdom? Thanks!

I have an x9 GXP crankset & BB on my 2014 El Mar and it cinched up perfectly with no play and with no spacers. I've also had an x0 crankset & BB on my Santa Cruz (also 73mm) and I couldn't get the play out of the crankset for the life of me. So basically YMMV I guess.

There should be no spacers on the BB shell with the SRAM setup.

I got rid of the play by installing 2 orings on the crank right behind the sprockets. This prevents the bb plastic bearing cover from backing out and causing the play. There is a thread somewhere here on mtbr that explains it.

Thanks for the replies! I will search again for the thread your talking about but I didn't find it yesterday. The bearing in the BB are shot so as soon as the new bearings show up I'll see if the play is gone without spacers. If not I'll try the O-ring method.
