El Mar bb shell screw hole question

I guess this question isn't really specific to the El Mar frame, but I recently converted mine from 2X10 to ss. I removed the cable guide under the bb shell. I thought I'd just put the screw back in to plug the hole, but of course without the cable guide it is too long (hits crank axle). I'm worried that if I just leave it open dirt will get in? Should I find a shorter screw, just put a piece of tape over the hole, or just ignore it?

Use it as a drain hole

Yes, if it's open, its a drain hole. I don't get much water in my frame, so the question is if leaving it open will result in extra grit inside the bb?

I haven't really noticed that it lets in any appreciable amount of funk. The EBB on my 2009 El Mar gets filthy as it is. I wouldn't worry about it...
