Did I crush my new Salso Pro Moto carbon bar?

Got a new Salsa Pro Moto carbon bar. Installed it with my regular Bontrager Race Lite 4 bolt stem. The stem says 8nm so I followed those directions with my torque wrench. Ended up getting a slight "noise" out of the bar and the pictures below show the result.

I guess 8nm was too much? Or is this just the clear coat/paint/etc cracking and the actual carbon is fine? Is this "normal" for a carbon bar?

I retried it at a different angle just to see what happens with 5nm and at 5 I got an ever so slight indention as well, but no noise. Also for comparison, I put the brakes and shifters on at 5nm and go no indentions or marks on the bar at all.

As far as torque wrench "calibration", I tested it against my 5nm "torquey" device thing, and it's right dead on at 5nm so I'm assuming it's also correct at 8.

Here are the pics. I left them huge so you could see the indention.

Because of previous bashing of vendors I've seen on MTBR, I want to be clear that I'm not saying at ALL that this is a defect in the bar, just asking if *I* broke it or not

8nm sounds quite high. I believe most stems only require 4-5nm.

The one I have clearly states 8nm, but I will tighten my next Salso Pro Moto Carbon to 5nm

8nm is 70 inch pounds. I run only thomson stems with carbon bars and they requre only 35 inch pounds.
