2014 Salsa Firestarter Carbon Fork
On Salsa's web site under the El Mariachi page, Salsa mentions the " Firestarter Carbon Fork".
Anyone seen this? Photo's/Spec's??

look at the pics of the Fargo. They come with the firestarter (except the bottom level one)
-
Is it a Foundry fork or different?

The Firestarter Carbon fork is our proprietary Salsa designed carbon fork, specifically for the Fargo (it also fits the El Mariachi), made from carbon fiber, with a fully reinforced insert for Anything Cage mounting on both legs, and a 15mmx100 Maxle dropout, at less than 800 grams.

What about the CroMoto Tapered 15mm off the 2014 El Mar SS? Will this be available aftermarket?
-
The Firestarter fork will be available for aftermarket around January 1 of this year and MSRP is $595 including Rockshox Maxle and compresion plug.
The Cromoto Tapered 15mm fork will be $209 MSRP including Sram Maxle, and will arrive around the beginning of December.

Thank you. I have to say, $595 is pretty steep for the fork! Was expecting around $400. 800g is not light! Guess I'll stick with my steel fork for a while.

So....will the Firestarter carbon fork easily fit a Knard on a rabbit hole? What is the clearance (in mm) between the fork legs?

Are there any updates to when the Firestarter will be available for after market purchase? I started building a custom El Mariachi for the Tour Divide back in August. Was originally told fork would be available 10/31, then it was 12/31, now I'm seeing things on the internet saying 1/31. Really wanted this fork, but need to start riding my bike. May have to go with the Whiskey Parts fork.

First spec info I've been able to find on the Firestarter carbon fork:
Universal Cycles -- Salsa Firestarter Carbon Rigid 29er Fork
No mention of tire clearance between the fork legs. I've sent them a question: if I get a response, I'll post it here.

The official response from Universal Cycles is...
"I just spoke to Salsa and they do not recommend a tire larger than 2.3” on that fork."
Of course they don't. Still no word on the actual clearance between the fork legs. Anybody else out there have a tape measure and access to an actual Firestarter fork?
Kudos to UC for the quick response, even if it wasn't the one I wanted.

I didn't get a head on shot (bad me), but here's a firestarter fork with a 45NTH Nicotine studded tire on it.

Read the Grant Peterson rant on carbon forks. (Rivendell) I think you could have a titanium fork to match the Fargo geometry for that price. Carbon forks and frame are bacically disposable items.
