    2014 mariachi vs 2011-2013 mari

    Hey guys,

I have a 2012 mari and was looking at doing some upgrades- wheels, fork.

Is the new mari- shorter chainstays and tapered head tube- worth the upgrade?

I know you can't keep chasing the newest and greatest thing (unless you dump some serious coin) but I was looking for forks and most decent used forks are now tapered. So if I upgrade my fork to a new non tapered i'd almost be selling mine and spending the money on the fork for the new bike.

Anyone ride the two to compare? I'm hoping to ride the new one next weekend.

    thanks

I have a 2012 El mar Ti and the head tube is tapered. I assume it's the same for the steel.

Steel ones aren't tapered, it's straight 44mm, which will let you run tapered or regular 1-1/8" with the proper headset.

Being a dealer, I think I can say this fairly accurately:
The 2014 El Mar has some improvements, but the 2011-2013 model is a fine riding bike. If you were looking at getting a bit of a deal on a 2013, versus spending "new" pricing on a 2014, it's worth the money for the new one (nice build kits this year). I have a 2012 Selma, and wouldn't drop the $$ to get the 2014 Ti - I love the way my bike rides. People focus on chain stay length to the point of insanity. While it might tighten things up a bit, a well-designed bike won't be affected that much by a centimeter or so less chain stay. Ride your El Mar and when sh!t wears out, replace it with better sh!t.
