Rocky Mountain Element 970 - max tyre size

What width of tyres can be ran in the rear of the RM Element 29er?

I know it was initially criticised for not having a decent amount of clearance (pretty much the only negative), but I've seen SLX front mechs used to ease the situation...?

Interested to see what folk are running

    Cheers

2.25 Nics fit the 2012 on ArchEx rims w/o rubbing. Derailleur clearance is not the issue, but rather seatstay clearance. Search the twentynineinches.com article for more on 2012's clearance. The 2013 gets more clearance via seatstay dimples.

If you need more than tire than a 2.25 Nic, I'd wager you're trying to use this bike well beyond its intended tech xc use (ie, get a Slayer).

Cross posted in the 29er sub forum. 2013 Element 970RSL BC Edition. Rocky has put a dimple in the seat stays to allow for more clearance. My 2012 rubbed with a 2.25" Ardent. This is a 2.2" Conti with room to spare.

Thanks for posting that. I can see how without the dimples that fit would be tight

How are you liking the bike?
