Anybody tried this wheelset? I am curious about the Syntace W35 which would replace a Mavic Crossmax SLR wheelset has proven to be too minimal for a Clydesdale (and yes, Mavic suggests as much).
The wider Syntace sounds interesting. Rear chainstay clearance would be a gamble. I have a pair of Maxxis Ardent 2.4's mounted tubeless on the Crossmax SLR. Fit is good even with some wobble.
A wider rim will change the tire profile. For the W30, Syntace writes that it is suitable for tires, "from 2.2 to 2.35'' whereas the W35 is suitable for tires, "from 2.25 to 2.5''. Rim inner width for the W30 and W35 is 24.5 mm and 28.4 mm, respectively.
Right now, I don't see any reason to get the W35. On the other hand, if there are are true to spec 2.4" tires that make sense, why not simply take "wider is better" as far as it goes for the 970 RSL.
Left on my own, I might go up from with a W35 HiTorque MX Front 20 (over-sized bearings; stout) where I don't anticipate any problems. In the rear? W30 ... seems like I might be pushing it otherwise (i.e. clearances would be very tight).
