replacing internally routed gear cable- Element 29 BC- tips?

Just pulled the rear derailleur cable out to replace it and now see that it is not lined internally in the frame .

Very difficult to route the new cable inside the frame, cannot seem to get it out at the tiny exit hole at the BB.

Any tips for replacing/routing the cable?

Shouldn't there be a inside liner?

(Probably should have used this trick:Changing brakes cables with internal routing on Vimeo)

Why not just remove the cable port plug at the BB?

Take tension of both derailleur cables, remove plug( you can't remove it if you leave one cable on) mount the bike in such a way that the down tube is vertical.

I had an issue myself and found that the easiest way to get it to come out of the exit port was to simply hold the cable at the entry point by the headtube and as I pushed it through the frame I spun it. this made it slip out of the exit port instead of going up into the frame

I just got a 2012 element msl frame. It does not seem to be like the cable port plug (aluminum) under the BB is removable. How hard should have have to pull it for it to come out?

It has a rubber o-ring that may be holding on to the plug, but it should just pull out

OK, I put a little tri-flow around the edge and it loosened up and came out. Thanks!
