Element 9x0 and tire clearance with wide rims

    Hi folks,

Hoping some of you that have had time to experiment with alternative wheelsets on the 29er Element might be able to help with a question.

I have a 2012 Element 950 that I picked up for a great price and my number 1 upgrade will be to get a lighter set of wheels on it. I have an option on an in vogue wider rim (30mm external, 27mm internal width) which would probably set up a nice tire profile but I'm concerned that with the relatively tight spacing in the rear that I will end up with clearance issues.

I don't have access to the rim to check this out, and can't be certain what the tire dimensions will end up being. So I wondered if anyone has any experience of running a wider rim in these frames .... ?

    Any thoughts gratefully received!

    Cheers,
    Gary

Element 9x0 and tire clearance with wide rims

ArchEX + 2.25 Nobby Nic fits w/o rubbing. Wouldn't recommended bigger than that.

    I have an Element 999RSL

There is plenty of room in the rear for a 2.25 Racing Ralph on a Stans Flow rim. Derailleur is XT 770 3spd and there is plenty of clearance to that as well.

Interesting - thanks. Guess I better figure out how much more clearance the carbon frames have.
