The German "Bike" I picked up at the pump during my travels has a short review on the 970 as well. They were VERY positive...
If I have enough time I'll do a translation/summary later this week...

They need to be lighter. The 950 I saw today felt about 30lbs.

Are you sure? ... 30lb ? It seems a little to much for a $ 3500 xc/race 29 FS bike!!
Does anybody know the acurate weight ?
Picture with scale please!:
Ps: nice looking bike and great pictures.
thanks

Sorry, no scale shot.

Thanks for your quick answer!
you guys rock!
27 lb is a pretty good for a medium and I bet it could be even lighter with a pair of Stan's Crest or Eastons wheels...
I'm still disappointed about no frame option this year for Element / Vertex 29 alloy
thanks

It didn't feel anywhere near 27lbs but it was a demo unit. My HiFi is at 27 lbs and there was a definite difference.

I'm sure it must work, but I don't like the look of it. My older Element compresses the shock straight along its length. This design applies sideways forces to the shock as well as compressing it. I can't see how that can be anything other than a bad thing, even in the short term, but especially over years of service.

No undue strain on the shock because it pivots at the mounts... Big problem if it were a rigid connection.

Really like the bike...and I'm disappointed too for not having the only frame option.
I was wondering which fork is the Revelation set in the Element 950.. I don't see it in the Sram/Rock Shox web site. In the Rocky M site is written "Revelation RL air u-turn".. I had a Reba Air U-turn several years ago, wondering if is the same stuff...
info about it?

It's a custom fork, that I got RS to make for us... Same technology as Reba U Turn, but different chassis...
Makes the bike pretty versatile!
NOTE: I should make a distinction... All adjustable travel bikes usually are made to be lowered for climbing, but are meant to be ridden extended most of the time. Our bike is meant to be ridden lowered (100mm) most of the time, and LENGTHENED for DH. Subtle difference, but the bike handles rolling terrain better in 100mm, and you bump it up to 120mm when pointed downhill...

Thank's for the quick answer...
I always loved adjustable travel forks, I think that if they work fine (compression, lock out ) and the weight is ok (somewhere around 1800 gr) is the perfect solution for always having the right geometry. I'm not far to be sold for this bike for the next season (the only thing I really thing has to be changed are the wheels... the seem a little too heavy for xc)!

Everything in the wheels is average mid-priced XC 29" weight. 32h, butted DT Comp spokes, 485g rim, light Maxxis tires + tubes, decent weight hubs.
I totally agree, light wheels are awesome, but could cost you $$$$$$. Cheapest solution is look for some Stans rims, and convert the wheelset to tubeless (or use the DT tubeless kit on the stock wheels). Anything else is going to cost you real monies.

Could the custom Revelation on the 950 be set to 110/140mm?
I ask b/c we are strongly considering getting this bike for my wife (TT length is spot-on), and swapping the Revelation with a Reba we have on hand (and saving the Revelation for a future build).

That, sir, is an excellent question. I don't currently have an excellent answer, but I will find out... Stay tuned.

Yeah, I know is expensive... but I really think that a frame like this deserves a great pair of wheels... Stans rims could be a good solution, indeed.
If I had the chance to buy it like a frame only I think that I'd like to built it with a Fox Talas (95-120), American Classic Tubeless (the 1600 g. ones), Sram X0 (complete gruppo), and last but dont' least an adjustable seat post (well, I know is not XC, but I like it and I really can do without it.. In my mind the perfect XC-trail bike, expensive (for sure), but worthy!

Just ask your LBS to make you an offer for frame only. I did and they'll sell me a 970 + fork for 2500 euro. If I didn't have a Ventana on sale, I would have ordered it already, but I have to wait for my Ventana to sell.

I have another little question for RMB-PM, and is about the shock that comes with the 950...
I see that is the RS Monarch RT, but I'm not sure about the adjustements that it allows: Does it have a pro-pedal on/off lever (is that the "floodgate adjustement")?
Thank's!

It has a dial, that goes from no platform to full platform in about 300 degs rotation...
