    2000 Element Race

I am looking at purchasing an Element in very good condition. The asking price is around $500. Since I'm new to MTB (and to this board), I would like to know the advantages and disadvantages of purchasing this bike. Is there anything specific that I should be inspecting on the bike? This will be my first MTB and I'm not sure if this is a good choice.

    Thanks in advance.

That's a reasonable price for an Element of that vintage.

Check the rear triangle for play in the bushings by holding the rear wheel at the top and see if you can move it side to side or see if makes any rattling noise if lifted off the ground and shaken vertically.

They weren't prone to cracking in the frame, but have a close look at the swingarm for any cracks up near the yoke at the front of the swingarm or near the welds in the back near the dropouts.

This is how it was originally equipped
