I won this frame on a charity auction for NICA last December and I really didn't expect to win it but nonetheless the opportunity presented itself and I didn't currently have a SS bike in my quiver so I got my thinking cap on an came up with this...
During my research I noticed that hardly anyone builds up a Ritchey bike using all the Ritchey goodies which seem intuitive to me for the "team/factory" look so my inspiration was the P-29er Ritchey catalog bike.
My regular whips are matching 2013 Specialized S Works Epic & Stumpjumper so the whole "steel" thing is a real departure for me and a surprise for my local bike shop mechanics when I walked in the door with the frame and started ordering the parts for it.
I did like how the geometry correlates almost to my stumpjumpers so dialing in the fit and cockpit was a painless procedure for someone as nit-picky as myself.
I've only gotten two rides in a pre-ride of a marathon XC race course and the actual marathon race the following day (I was originally just gonna be race support for my wife) and I had such a good time on the pre-ride that I wanted to ride it the next day rather than standing around watching the action.
Other than being over geared for a Texas hill country course and starting in the back row of all the marathon racers I had great time on my first steel bike acquisition the bike isn't an S Works Epic by a long shot but I don't think it will gather much dust from not being used as so many of my past on a whim bike purchases have been in the past.
