    Pliny and the Syncros fork

The UPS man dropped by today and dropped off an interesting combo. Yeahhhhhhhhh!!!

Product shootout! Which is lighter. The Pliny or the Syncos fork?

It is a present from El Santo for helping find his Mojo HD. A Mojo HD was stolen last month in Norcal and the community recovered it. I helped a tiny bit and I got a present!!! Details here: http://reviews.mtbr.com/blog/mtbr-no...black-mojo-hd/

Some say that a Pliny weighs more than a carbon fork.

    And they are not mistaken

Should we put this fork on the steel 29er or the plastic 26er?

It'll be a good beer project either way. And we do have some backup.

Bikes and craft beer. Two things that consume a lot of my money.

Enjoy them both, but probably best to save the Pliny until after you get the new fork installed.

Depends on the rake of the fork.

Sweet. I've become a big fan of the IPA and 2Melow and folks at the beer forum have been helping me out.

    Measure once cut twice right??

I test fit the fork on the carbon bike and it weighed in at 15.4 lbs. I think I'll put it there first.

Thanks for the heads-up - I completely missed that there's a beer forum here. I've been hanging out on BeerAdvocate for years, but may as well combine the two passions.

I'd be putting it on the carbon. It matches far better than on the Niner.

plastic on plastic. 15 lbs, how does it feel to have a track bike on the trails? Wow, that is super lightweight considering my steel 61cm bare bones 853/ox platinum fixie weighs 18 lbs.

We shall find out tomorrow. 15.4 lbs with bmx chain, candy pedals and a pliny YAWD bottlecap on the stem. On another note, my kid spilled my Pliny pint all over my desk and office. Smells good here now.

Axle to crown is 485 mm. Offset is 38 mm.

The carbon bike a Look 986 26er. I've had it for three years and it has been flawless! I keep playing configurations and it keeps on ticking.

I have two rides on the Syncros 29er fork and it has been awesome so far. I've ridden the Pace forks and White Brothers and this is definitely smoother. This steers perfect as expected with rigid forks. This fork seems to have a lot of give and vibrations are muted. I did a 3000 foot descent on fire road and singletrack mix and I didn't need a break since I felt pretty good at all the normal resting junctions.

One thing to note is I was using 26 inch wheels too. And normally that is just a recipe for a beating on long high speed descents. But today was just fine even as I did a few jumps. I was using Michelin DryX2 tires at 25 psi, tubed. The ESI grips were a big help as well. I was using carbon rims but I don't know if those were a factor.

I haven't tried the Niner fork yet but hopefully soon.
