xc rider getting a fistula!
i'm getting a fistula installed in my arm in a couple of weeks because my kidney is failing and i have to start dialysis. anybody with this problem? i want to keep riding but i don't know how inactive/active i have to be.
i'm 6'0, 160 lbs and i typically ride everyday.
That's tough. I used to work with vascular surgeons and have sat through many fistula operations. You should definitely consult your vascular surgeon specifically about getting back on the bike. Blood flow through the fistula is very important during the healing or "maturation" period as well as avoiding clot formation so they might have a strong opinion on exercise that will raise blood pressure.
Holy Cow! That is some serious stuff. Definitely consult with your doctors on this one. The fistula can initally be really delicate. You don't want to mess with it.
