    occassional tightness in ITB and hamstring

    coming from a 6 month layoff, i started riding again since last december.

    i still use the same bikes and gears, but since my comeback i am having occasional tightness in my hamstring and ITB. i will rest if for a week and it will feel ok but it will recur again after some time.

    any idea on what causes it? tight lower back / hip flexor?

    I'd guess ITB / Piriformis... these two seem to work in tandem and when the ITB flares up so does the Piriformis.

    Roll the crap out of the ITB and stretch the Piriformis. Rest won't help the ITB in my experience. You have to get in there and break up the tissue which means rolling it. If you do it a few times a day it responds pretty quickly.
