I met her about 3 years ago at La Ruta. I pretty much kept pace with her and her husband through the whole race. Great times (her husband was an x-DH racer, so it was just amazing seeing him fly over some of the rough stuff).
So, we ended up chit chatting along the way... and having a couple of cold ones at the end of it all.
Anyhow, a couple of days back a local tri post brought back memories of the conversations we had during the 3 days of hell.
I was saddened to find that Jamie is no longer competiting out there for she has been hit hard by cancer.
"Jamie Whitmore is no stranger to a tough challenge. You don't become 2007 XTERRA Triathlon USA Champion, 2004 XTERRA Triathlon World Champion & 2003/04 XTERRA Triathlon European champion without a good fight. On July 14, Jamie underwent surgery to remove a second tumor, which was discovered several weeks ago. She had a previous tumor removed on March 28."

Although I didn't know them all that well. I truely hope that she fully recovers and her determination to be one of the best out there continues.
god bless. Cancer seems to be hitting many of our athletes. I hope that a cure to this awful disease comes soon. And, the cause of it uncovered.
