Sometimes if the start of the ride has some steep climbs straight away - I get a mild - but enough for concern - pain in my upper left side of my chest (around the heart area ) It's not a throb, just constant and seems to come if I get seriously puffed early on. if I back off it goes in about 30 seconds. It's only ever while I'm warming up. 20 mins into the ride I can go hard as I want - even to the point of vomiting and I won't have any sign of the pain.
You could always buy some heart medications on the internet.
Try several kinds, see which one works best.
I've also heard it was possible to cathetorize yourself at home.

I get what you describe- an intense pain in my upper chest if I set out too quickly. Typically on dry days when there are irritants (allergens, smoke, dust etc.) present. When I suspect this might be an issue I use an inhaler prior.
I would still see a Doc.
Good Luck
I agree with seeing the Doc. I'll bet its acid reflux. As you start breathing hard the hole in the diaphragm starts pushing on the esophogus and causes GERD. I hope it's not a hiatal hernia.
Doc did the usual heart tests and all is good, no history of heart trouble in the family.
Looks like it may be acid.
I get a bit of indigestion and I am physically unable to belch. Yes I could down a can of coke in one hit and couldn't burp even though I'd blow up like a balloon, weird huh?
Nothing definative from the Doc.
Maybe what I eat from the day before has some influence will have to see what happens.
So I get one chance to keep up with you - the first climb. I'll have to remember that
Remind me next time we ride together to tell you about my mate who had the same problem you're describing.
