    Ankle tendonitis

I've recently been diagnosed as having left ankle tendonitis. It's no the achilles tendon, but rather the lateral tendon on this inside of the foot, by the ankle joint.

I've been wearing a hospital provided air brace, taking Advil every day as well as Selenium (on recommendation from my LBS).

I'm itching to get back into the saddle, but know I"ll have to provide more support for the tendon than the tape job I normally do.

Does anyone have any recommendations for bike friendly ankle braces? Dick's Sporting Goods has a fair amount, but if anyone has one they would recommend as cycling specific, I'd appreciate it.

Primarily ride road and flat xc.

    Thanks!

    Peroneal Tendonitis

Isnt it a peroneal tendonitis, an inflamation of the tendon at the back of the fibula. Ive had the same problem, been off the bike for months. Applied R.I.C.E approach and did some strengthening , but havent got any improvement. YOu may see an specialist, PT or the like.

Try a lace up brace perhaps- that's what I've been told. Lately I've been taping it up which helps a bit.

If it's on the inside (medial) of the foot, your probably have posterior tibialis tendonitis. One major cause of this is over pronation (flat feet). A decent set of arch supports (superfeet is what I use in the clinic I work at) could do wonders for supporting the arch and decreasing stress on the tendon. If you have very flat feet custom orthotics might be beneficial. If you have more questions let me know and I can go into greater detail.

Hi thanks for your reply. By the way its on the outerside, (lateral), the tendon (peroneal) at the back of the fibula. I have pains on both ankle but right ankle is more severe. Tendon on my right foot tends to sublux a bit, i feel a snapping sensation on it, but the left is ok, but inflammed too.
Seen a PT, gave me anti inflammations and recommended strengthening exercises. Been ok for a while, but it just recurs everytime i ride. I may be getting back to riding with still inflammed tendon (im not sure), but i just felt ok before riding again.
