P.S. All kidding aside, it is a manipulative way for forums to try to motivate their members to post more. You know, if you're a real man then you'll work to up your Rep Power number, right? But in reality it means nothing. The more you post, obviously the more you visit, and the more you visit, the more the forum can charge its advertisers. Seriously, pay no attention to your "Rep Power" number. It's a ploy.

Of course I'm assuming all this... because I'm paranoid.

I like ploys: let's play. Everyone on this thread will post 5 posts a day every day in addition to their regular posts. This is what I was talking about above after I researched "REP Power"

Look, your Rep Power went from 1 to 3.

I thought maybe "Rep Power" had some connection to the amount of time you've been a member of MTBR.com. If there is any connection between your rep power and your post count then it makes no sense. There are people out there with more than triple my post count and their rep number is far lower than mine.

Honestly I think its just another gimmick put in place by "Da' Man" to hold us down.

I just added to your reputation. See the bursting cloud thingy? I clicked that and gave you approval... not that you were seeking it...

On my way to Repdom? I don't know if I'm ready... It reminds me of the time my grandpa said that I was ready to be promoted to operate the sausage stuffing machine, hence forth known as the sausage fiasco of 1978... Maybe we are not all meant for Rep Power?

So I attempted and failed at removing the rep **** from my personal **** ****, but to no avail.

I decided on a new goal, and hopefully I'll get some help- I want to be the MTBR member furthest in the hole. You know what to do.

LOL... On some other forums, we keep on clicking each other's REPs just for the fun of it. Then boost to each other about how we are better coz our rep is more... LOL

One forum I used to frequent had a thanking system, where you could thank people for their useful posts. Then you'd have the number of times you were thanked as a metric rather than a postcount or "rep." This seemed to promote more community than competition, provided no benefit for useless or distasteful posts, and obviated the "+1" post indicating agreement. Worked pretty well, at least in that community.

I don't think you have to log out because my rep power is 3 and I never log out. I keep a tab open 24-7 to MTBR. I am always logged in so if you needed to log out my Rep power would be 1. Anyway, today is a new day. 1

I just repped you up man!

I think it should work like this though.

Ride a SS? Start with 6.

    Rigid fork? Add 2

    Suspension fork, subtract 1

    29er? Add 2

    26 only? Minus 1

Own both a 26 and 29 SS? Add 8. Because you are truly enlightened.

Is at least one of those handbuilt steel? Add 1

    Nice guy? Add 1

And that right there is how Sparty got a rep power of 18. Legendary hero to Singlespeeders everywhere.
Thanks to www.weavercycleworks.com for my awesome bike frames!

He rides geared during the summers. FS. So, hmmmm.... Maybe some extra sweet bonus points for running SS even back when he was attending Galilee HS, you know, with Jesus.

    You forgot about 650b.

Thanks for the rep, but I really want to get into the red, so votes down will make me feel warm and fuzzy. A man needs goals.

These are my favorite bits from the announcement:

Minimum Reputation Count - How much reputation must a user have before his reputation hits count on others?
    10

Daily Reputation Clicks Limit - How many reputation clicks can a user give over each 24 hour period? Administrators are exempt from this limit.
    10

    Reputation User Spread
    - How many different users must you give reputation to before you can hit the same person again? Administrators are exempt from this limit.
    100

    i like this one:

What is it and why is it important?
It is a way of sorting who are the really good contributors to the forum and who are not. It's like Ebay's seller Rating where you can quickly tell who are the established/trusted members of the group and whether you should buy from them or not.

just for sh*t and giggles, i searched few members here who sells stuff, not so very accurate rating IMHO.

Ok, so this is getting to be one of my favorite features. So far I had a couple great comments in the rep power, some of them with the vaunted red seal of disapproval.

    "he is negative."

    "mean bad post.'

"i like his cookie duster "

    and my favorite- "Lovable *******."

    This is better than Facebook.

EDIT: I did more searching into the social aspects for this site. First off, we can all be friends and send friend requests. We could also start a social group. The latter bit is confusing to me, because there are already lots and lots of social groups here....

And... this really is a bit more like Facebook that I'd like to admit.
