Nevertheless, while the New Testament did not spring magically from a magic cauldron, it is what it is. What wasn't included is no more valid or invalid from a purely historical perspective than what was...except is wasn't included and you either believe that the warm hand of God guided our Holy Fathers or you don't.

Everything else is just conspiracy history. The synoptic Gospels are, again, what they are. Essentially the recollections of events from four different perspectives. Anybody who simply reads the Bible without a chip on his shoulder can see this.

I realize that disproving the Bible is a cottage industry on the Internet but I think I'll listen to the Holy Fathers and take the time to understand what they say on the subject.

Even an educated atheist does not flippantly dismiss the beauty and wisdom of the Bible.

Which version of the Bible? What language was it in? Was it based on original manuscripts? Who translated those manuscripts? Etc.

Seems to me that a lot of hate and killing is done in the name of god. Muslims, Christians, Jews-they're all into it.

Btw, I don't think Park Tool has any hidden agenda regarding homosexuals.

Evil lies in the hearts of men as does good.

They don't lie in the underworld or up in the sky!

Much, if not all the killing done in the name of religion is for political or economic gain, or lust in the case of Henry the 8th.

In his case he wanted to bang a tart but needed a divorce to do her legally, so he invented Anglicanism.

Then he had 1,000's killed who disagreed with his version of Christianity....

all for a piece of a$$.

Take Muslims too....the Sunni Shia business was all over who was the correct descendant of the Prophet, god praise his name, back in 632.

How many tens of thousands of Muslims have been killed over this?

Again, it's hate and tribalism masquerading as 'true' religion, where the winners get economic control over a country.

All the car bombings in Iraq now are precisely this.

Same b.s. with my ancestors from northern Ireland. Anyone who's Protestant there is merely a descendant of a taker of some Catholic's land back in the day. Religion has zilch to do with it except for a excuse to take, kill or fight back on both sides.

The communists had it right in banning all religion, no question about it.

Check out TMT (terror management theory), it explains a lot!

A yogi goes into his dentist office. Just as the dentist is about to give him a shot of Novocaine, the Yogi puts his hand up and refuses, "No thanks, I transcend dental medication."

Except they did not. If you have participated in one their rituals you would know that.

As a kid I was wearing a red scarf and a prophet face on a lapel reciting an oath to "be ready" in the morning prayer^h^h..err, not sure how to call it.. at school. More fun than many religions..

It's funny that many leftists fail to acknowledge Lenin's original sin. I'm a student of history so I'm quite baffled at how this can be. Perhaps these folks are brainwashed.

Axe, do you know of the Kronstadt rebellion?

I suspect that it was left out of the curriculum.

What is sad is the fact Russia has only had democracy for the briefest of times.

It certainly isn't democracy under Putin.
