Dude, I told you I trust non-Christians. I just need to get to know them a little bit more. Being a true Christian proves to me that you are an ethical person. You can be ethical or trustworthy and not be a Christian, but I can't just read the cover. I need to read some of the book, first. Get it?

Well, if they would have named it something like "F A G HAG" then you'd have a case.

Just messin with you... I personally mistrust most Christians, or even most 'religious' people because in my experience most turn out to be untrustworthy, paying lip service to a set of ethics about which they understand little, and care for even less. A bit like politicians for that matter... or even human beings... I'll get me coat...

Dont true Christians renounce all worldly possessions, and avail themselves of martyr opportunities?
    Anything less is a lie!
Christ would really not want to associate with any of today's Christians, methinks.

The Dark Side of Park Tools?

Wow the OP sounds ignorant, this is one of the things that's wrong with this world and especially the u.s, everyone is butt hurt. If they wanna call their tool a *** and have bible versus in their catalog and this offends you then don't buy their product, if everyone who buys from them feels this way they will eventually go under.... But most likely your the only one noticing.

    1. Human nature is a funny thing. The OP makes a stupid post and when confronted with it's stupidity he plays the role of a martyr.
    2. Anytime you have to begin a post with "I know I'm going to get flamed for this." That's your brain telling you it's probably stupid to post it.
    3. Everyone hates on the church for being biased but the OP sees a bible verse and is convinced this company is Nazi Germany.
I think you may have overblown what I was trying to communicate here originally. Between the bible verse and the tool, we have an interesting COINCIDENCE. That part is fact. What I did, was suggest the POSSIBILITY of a more sinister motive on Park's part. It's just not everyday that you see that word used. Unless of course you're buying bearings in Germany.

Regarding your "point #2": You seem to be saying that if someone has an opinion that may prove unpopular with the masses, they should just remain silent. That's not how I do. Nor was it the style of our founding fathers, and millions of other people who try to make a difference. "DIFFERENCE": the word "different" is built right in.

You're right. I'm probably one of the only people noticing. Organizations can't be too blatant with hate speech these days. I simply noticed a subtle coincidence between a company's religion and one of its products. Me, I wouldn't be comfortable releasing a product labeled "F A G". But Park is.

Just hypothetically assume I'm right, that Park is anti-gay. Would people still want to support their products? I bet a lot of the folks on these boards would not. I accept people disagreeing with my theory. I just hope they can keep an open mind, when presented with new information. Information that may defy some of their tightly held beliefs. But clearly, some posters can't even do that much.

It IS hard to believe. More specifically, it's uncomfortable to believe. Not sure why you now feel "extra encouragement" to use their products. Care to elaborate?

I ran a race car shop for many years & my customers needed lots of money for there hobby.

1 of my customer was quite open about how he went to church just because it was a great place to pick up new customers, He often said that you didn't need to build up trust because most of the people at the church believed that because you were there you were trust worthy.

So I take every person as they come & don't take the fact that someone says they are a Christian that they are Ok.

Past actions are what matters to me, Christian or not.

Well, I read as much of this thread as my bowels would allow
without exploding. To the OP, I am a Christian, and I will give you some
insight into my interpretation of my faith. I trust NO ONE until I know them, be
it a Christian or Wiccan. For as you know, ALL humans sin, and that includes us
fellow Christians. Only in God do I trust. As far as homosexuals go, I could have sworn
our Lord tells us to Love all, he who is without sin cast the first stone. Not my place
to judge, nor be an ass to someone who is different, as no one knows anything
until it is their time to go. As far as the Park Tool named ***, who cares? It's some
initials on a tool, and if it bothers you that much, call them and ask what their
beliefs are? Or better yet, let it go......
Sorry folks, I do not bash other people in their beliefs, or lack thereof, and
I certainly do not hold ill will towards anybody except criminals( get what you gave)
so I get a little defensive at times about my faith.
I am a sinner just like everyone else.

Brutha, I WISH all Christians carried this mindset. It's clearly the true Christian approach. I really don't think some random verse about homosexual abomination trumps "love thy neighbor", etc.

Like it has for several years prior, the current Park Tools Inc. catalog contains a bible verse. It’s verse John 1:12: “Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” It’s immediately followed by the signature of president Eric Hawkins.

Okay, so we can reasonably assume the leadership of this company has a Christian bent. While unusual, a bible verse in a product catalog isn’t anything to worry about.

Until you combine that fact with this one:

For many years, Park’s frame alignment gauge tool has hung on the wall in most of the bike shops in this country. It’s a decent tool; one I have used countless times. It is also a tool that, in clear, capital letters, bears the word “F A G”.

Before an onslaught of replies from “captain obvious” ensues; please understand that I realize how Park names their tools. The tool names are acronyms based on the tool’s longer-form description. I get it. All I’m saying is this:

Any time a company makes a product, any product; it has to ask itself a simple question: “Shall we adorn said product with a vicious, hateful slur?” In Park’s case, the answer was “yes”.

It’s well known that a sizable faction of Christians are intolerant of homosexuals. My point is that Park COULD have named that tool something else.
Sounds like park tools is another company that justifies its hate with religion (read chick filit) i wont be buying any of there shit thabks for bringing it to my attention.

I have no stickers or any other ad that says anything about myself on my service van. No ad on the side. Plain Jane. Nobody needs to know. No political stickers. No stickers telling anybody about my kids or pets. I do not elevate myself above anybody else with the use of ads or stickers on my business.

I do not know the business structure of Park but if I had money invested in Park and Park was advertizing anything else other than their tools I would start asking questions.

I usually try to avoid all companies with a self-proclaimed religious bent. Why? Not so much because of their religion, but because 9 times out of 10, they will inevitably politicize their religiosity.

That being said, other than a shitty, somewhat antiquated website, I have no gripes against Park Tool.

Well old-timer, I assure you my goal is not to rouse rabble. Rabble rousing is extraneous and inflammatory. I'm just trying to help gay folks not get bashed.

Umm... he said the Lord, as I am presuming on its face to mean Jesus.

Jesus has absolutely nothing to do with Leviticus or Jude. That's right, Jude, too, who biblical scholars highly doubt, and even neglect, as non-Canonical. Sorry, please try again.

So, you are rejecting the Holy Bible?

    Romans 1:26-27
"For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet."

(P.S. I am an agnostic. Or а fuсkitist. Depends on who is asking.)

Good job Axe! Now people will try and say what it means and pick and chose from the bible what they want. Just like the bible wants women to be subject to there husbands, but any female christain today will explain it away. And no christains today follow the strange rules on marrige in regards to one man maryying his breothers wife if his brother dies.

The bible is so filled with so many laws and sayings, people just pick and chose what they want. Then justify what they dont want to follow with long explanations, like eating shrimp. Then when its time to force belifes on people they will quote a passage and say, "its right there in the bible"

Naw. I wish there was an "afterlife", that we didn't die and go back to nothingness, like before we were conceived, but as much as I'd like for that to happen, just wanting it or believing it doesn't make it true. That's the difference, that believing something makes it true.

They will figure out how to make a backup copy and upload it somewhere for preservation. What was that quote about sufficiently advanced technology being indistinguishable from magic? Maybe it is already done, with the whole complexity and history of the universe being stored in some quantum string.

Then this guy goes on for five pages to justify breaking some of gods laws while trying to enforce some on others.

Why eating shrimps is not like homosexuality - All Unkept

To me when I look at these old morality books and compare how they were followed over 3000 years ,all the while the book getting pointed to as the source of morality. It becomes very clear that morality comes from the sociity you live in not from the sky.

So parktools wants to quote bible verses then name tools after a homosexual slur. In there minds they are being moral, but socity is changing and that frame alinment gauge will get renamed soon. Soon people that say the bible is against homosexuality will be laughed at just like if someone suggested a womans hand be chopped off for grabbong a mans balls. People know that the bible was written a long time ago by a bunch of men.

To find the devine insperation you need to read between the lines and look to your heart for the meanings. Strange how much the average persons heart has changed over the last hundred years. Has Gods hearts changed or has socities?

Just to be clear, many of you have this cartoonish understanding of Christianity that you glean from sources that reinforce your opinions rather than informing or challenging them.

Many educated and thoughtful people are faithful Christians including many in Medicine and science.

It's easy to laugh at the religious nuts out there but quoting the Bible, reading It, and understanding it does not make you an intolerant zealot. In fact, since so much of Western thinking has been shaped by Christianity, even an atheist, if he wanted to be educated in his own culture, might have the intellectual humility to read It.

But to read the Bible looking for contradictions is idiotic. The Fathers of the Church spent a great deal of time compiling and editing what has become the New Testament. They knew theology backwards and forward, living and breathing it, so to speak. Give them a little credit for knowing what they were doing.

The great theologians and martyrs of the Church bear no resemblance to the caricatures you create.

Just to be clear, perhaps a few of us might have an outstanding education in theology as well, and a strong foundation in the various histories of world religions.

Indeed. Also Muslims, Buddhists, Jews, Mormon, Atheists. Mostly agnostics though.

I have also met seemingly educated people who believe in Scientology. Or physics professors who frequent psychics.

Park Tools is run by a bunch of god-hating, gay Commies! And they regularly consult with Hitler for marketing strategies. But that doesn't officially happen.

Oh, and they don't even like bikes. Turns out the whole company is just a laundering operation for their coke smuggling gig.

I have a 'Pork Depth Gague' with me at all times, frequently 'in hand'. It has proven quite useful (yet limited) in many dodgy situations. It is great, reliable tool, but it is out of alignment to the left just a little. It also varies greatly in measuring capability, generally due to the various textures of the specific subject it is measuring.

In general, I get the fastest measurements when it is well lubricated, but this certainly varies.

It applies textual criticism to the Bible.
Once again, with feeling, the Bible was compiled by the learned fathers of the Church primarily at the First Council of Nicea in the fourth century. What they included and excluded was debated vigorously amd I'm sure there were strong disagreements. Nevertheless, while the New Testament did not spring magically from a magic cauldron, it is what it is. What wasn't included is no more valid or invalid from a purely historical perspective than what was...except is wasn't included and you either believe that the warm hand of God guided our Holy Fathers or you don't.

Everything else is just conspiracy history. The synoptic Gospels are, again, what they are. Essentially the recollections of events from four different perspectives. Anybody who simply reads the Bible without a chip on his shoulder can see this.

I realize that disproving the Bible is a cottage industry on the Internet but I think I'll listen to the Holy Fathers and take the time to understand what they say on the subject.

Even an educated atheist does not flippantly dismiss the beauty and wisdom of the Bible.

I'm a big fan of Park's Derailleur Hanger Alignment Gauge. Is DHAG a hidden slur? Maybe a jab at old, unkempt ladies?

And a challenge. I'd like to see you folks insulting Christianity do the same to Islam.

You won't. Because political correctness is gutless and hypocritical.

you mean their mecca, that has a stupid asteroid in it?? All religions are based on one thing, telling others what to believe. And declaring all others wrong.

    they are all equally worthless.

But thanks for bunching non Christians in the "politically correct" crowd. Atheists are found across the political spectrum.

Islam is bullshit too. if Park Tools had a Koran quote and sold a tool with a questionable anti-infidel acronym, I'd say the same variety of thing, as would more people than are piping up in this thread.
