Reggae Riding Press Release - Southern Humboldt Community Park in Garberville, CA

Reggae Riding promises plenty of action for racers and spectators alike at the debut of this annual mountain biking festival Sunday August 19 at the Southern Humboldt Community Park in Garberville, CA. Activities for all ages and skill levels are set in spectacular natural setting to the beat of Reggae DJ’s and live concerts.

The Cross Country racecourse features 3 miles of mostly flat and twisty 70% single track in and out of woods and up and down a creek bed with lots of lines for passing and one 100-foot climb. It’s a great course for beginners and affords a fast circuit like race for advanced riders with lots of great spectating opportunities. A 100% Expert/Pro Payback cash purse should attract tough competition.

Registration opens at 11 AM and closes at 15 minutes before each scheduled race. Schedule is as follows.

1 PM. Beginner XC Race, 3 laps. 2 PM Sport XC Race, 5 laps. 2:30 PM Kid’s Race (12 and under). 3:30 PM Expert/Pro Race, 8 laps. 5 PM Slow Race. 5:15 PM Wheelie Contest. 6:30 PM Podiums/Awards/Raffle.

Kids’ race occurs on a special, short and mostly flat meadow course. All kids must wear helmets and have a parent present to register and fill out a waiver. All 12 and under participants can race for a donation of any amount and will receive a prize.

Rider clinics meet at 12 Noon in front of the barn. Emma Worldpeace will teach Newbie Knowledge for Beginners. Tsering Alleyne will teach Advanced Skills and Style with a course preview. Basic Bike Repair clinics are ongoing all afternoon. Sell or trade your old bike gear at the Bike Swap from 1:00 to 6:00.

BBQ, snacks and drinks are for sale from Noon on. DJ’s Paradigm and SunDub spin all afternoon. Live music begins at 5:00 featuring NPK, Ishi Dube, and Rootstock.

Admission is $20; under 18 $10; under 12 donation. Race and admission is $30; under 18 $15; under 12 donation. $5 off for participants who bike to the event.

The Reggae Riding mountain bike festival is a fundraiser for Team Lost Coast Brewery, the South Fork HS MTB Team, and UC Berkeley’s Cal Cycling MTB Nationals Team. To volunteer or for more information call 923-2100 or visit for up-to-date information.
