SYNDICATE BOYS TEST NEW FORT WILLIAM TRACK
(Brief report)
Sunday June 17, 2007
Fort William, Scotland
The Scottish Downhill Association held a downhill race this weekend at Fort William, Scotland giving riders a chance to test out the new additions to the long downhill track to be raced at the World Championships in September. It was a fine weekend, with just a bit
of rain on Saturday and the excellent race organization made for a great time with a good turnout of riders.
Steve Peat and Nathan Rennie (Santa Cruz Syndicate), were eager to test themselves and preview the track and did so in convincing form placing 1st and 2nd in the race. Peaty barely edged out Rennie with a 4:59.63, his time a mere .05 faster than Rennie's 4:59.68. Last year's winning time was 4:25, so the course addition at the top of the track adds on about 30 seconds+. Peat says, "It's pretty easy, not technical, but it makes it longer and more physically demanding."
With Rennie breathing down Peaty's neck at the finish, it shows that he has overcome the shoulder injury he suffered the last time he raced in Scotland.
