Who Here Has Stepped to "The Dark Side"?

    Cheney on NBC's Russert:

‘We … have to work the dark side, if you will,” Vice President Dick Cheney told NBC’s Tim Russert, five days after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. “We’ve got to spend time in the shadows using sources and methods that are available to our intelligence agencies. That’s the world [terrorists] operate in, and so it’s going to be vital for us to use any means at our disposal.”

Luke: "Is the dark side Dark Side stronger?"

Yoda: "No, no, no. Quicker, easier, more seductive."

I think the question is "Who here has stepped to the Dark End of the stick?"

Is there mental disturbance wrapped up in this?

No terrorist attacks so the Patriot Act worked.

Of course, I'm pretty sure walteroid is hoping for another terrorist attack just so he can claim they were wrong.

Hell...Waldo is praying for a complete and total collapse of the US military in Iraq and Afganistan. His people will turn out to be big losers if our forces kick ass...

Well in that case, I assume you support Rich Armattige, Tim Russert and everyone else that outed a "covert officer?" I mean, everything our military and intelligence services do should be totally out in the open, right?

Everybody who outed Plame should go to jail.

Novak, first and foremost. Any coincidence his nickname is "Prince of Darknesss"?

Russert is a gas bag. Yep, jail baby.

Everything our DOD and Intell services do should be legal and authorized.

    That would preclude torture.

And completley out in the open, right? No drones, no U2's, no SR71's (yes outdated, but still really focking cool), no satellite photo's, no covert officers or operations.

    Right?

What is so hard to understand about authorized and legal?

You sit there, and rationalize the outing of Plame.

You sit there and rationalize the invading of a country and killing tens of thousands based on falsehoods.

The buck stops at the top. It's Cheney who was behind the outing of Plame. It's Bush who has denied the responsibility of invading Iraq. It's Bush who ordered torture (illegal).

Then you want to accuse me of desiring to "out" technology and personnel? Take your phony stereotype projections and shove them up your arse.

    Your point, is not understandable.

    It's irrational.

    Like most of your thoughts.

Sorry, I can't help it if you fundamentally can't process reality.

Cheney was talking about doing illegal things. He was not talking about outing agents. He was talking about torture, kidnappings, evading the military and US justice systems. He wasn't talking about exposing covert operations. He was talking about conducting illegal covert operations that would not pass US laws or directives. You know, the President can issue a secret finding, and we can kill someone. That's legal, that's not what he was talking about.

What, in your crazy disconnected mind, do YOU think he was talking about?

I think you've misunderstood, Walnut. On the one hand you're pissed that Cheney thinks we sometimes have to operate in the "dark" - I read this as meaning 'spys' - just like Plame would like to be remembered.

OTOH you fully support Plame - who ostensbly operated in the "dark".

If we still have a disagreement, it's a matter of perseption.

It's just become starkly clear, that you don't understand how are government is put together and what people do.

Covert operations go on all the time, they have since the American Revolutionary war. They are legal, authorized and within the chain of command and do legal things, at least relative in 'our' laws.

Of course we were going to use covert ops on al Qaida. That was not what Cheney was talking about. He was not stating the obvious. He was saying we are going to operate in a way that is unbound by any laws. One could interpret it as a threat to al Qaida, fine, I don't begrudge him making the PR statement that is the threat. But now in hindsight, we know exactly what he meant. He didn't mean covert ops, he meant ILLEGAL activities.

It's pretty shocking how you fundamentally cannot understand what is going on.

You're twisting arguments here. Supporting Plames (or not) job has nothing to do with what Cheney was talking about or him outing her.

Oh look. More lies by Misery Shopper.

Armitage outed Plame. And from what I read, he didn't break any law in the process. That you think he, Novak and Russert should all go to jail only further illustrates your ignorance.

    Get a clue, you moron.
