XC 'bird needing shock for drops

I recently cracked the frame on my old Gen1 Firebird so I found a replacement 2013 frame and started building a lighter version. The original had a Totem coil up front with DHX Air out back. The new has a Talas 180 (2015 internals) and a RP23.
Loved pedaling the bike, I could instantly notice the 2-3 pounds missing via the suspension alone. ... but ... when I was on a regular light ride and just coasted off a normal 5' drop to miniature sniper landing, I bottomed HARD. Front and back. Never really noticed a bottom out there with the DHX Air.
Is there an easy fix for some more high speed compression or bottom out with the RP23 besides sending to Push for several hundred $?
