At this point I am seriously enamored with this bike...unbelievably capable and balanced, ruthlessly efficient and *very* fun transition and air capable. Rode Palm Canyon and the bike performed flawlessly. Setting PRs left and right...

I have put ~100 Miles on it and changed out the 2x10 for a triple with a 22... more on that another time, but its the right choice for my riding habits.

    Trail Build...5.10" Medium , 70mm Stem (may go 90x10) XTR / XT mix, triple, 240s w Stans Arch ~27lbs.

ps Dual Post but what the heck I don't buy a bike like this very often...

Hey guys and gals new to the forum and been trolling on the pivot boards for more then a year. Been hooing and humming about getting a new bike and I was dead set on a Mach 5.7 carbon for about the same time coming on here. First and foremost the information I have gathered on here has been great in understanding what to get. 2 days ago I put my money where my mouth is and purchased a 2013 mach 5.7 carbon green in small frame with bottom bracket and headset. This should arrive in 2 weeks to start my build. Im so friggin pumped for this. I also ordered a fox float 34 which I will get the LBS to shim down to 150mm to try and get the angles as close to stock as possible. Again purchased with the help of members on this forum. My current plan is to build it up with all XT components as I have done this in the past and very happy with shimano on a whole. I already have a set of Mavic crossmax rims which I will use for this build. I am thinking going with easton Haven carbon bar and seatpost with the aluminum stem. My question would be 70 mm stem or 55mm I am on the shorter side 5'5", My current ride is at 65 mm so im guessing 70 mm would be good just looking for your thoughts. Also anyone using the easton havens? what are your thoughts. And lastley a good seat. I know this is really up to the rider and is different person to person Just thought I wanted to see what others are using. Anyway Hi to everyone and hopefully see people on the trails. I will start posting pics as soon as the frame shows up and during the build.

    Pivot Mach 427....? 650b wheel's (27.5)

Post your Pivots here!-imag1257.jpgPost your Pivots here!-imag1267.jpgPost your Pivots here!-imag1266.jpgso far this thing works awesome, BB at 12.5" almost the same as the 100mm fork version, mine is 2012 120mm
plan to add 140mm fork and eccentric shock mounts to bring the BB up some and slack the head tube too...
rides great as is, just trying different tires until it feels the best, had kindle nav's too small poor rolling
went to nobby nic's 27.5x2.35 much better, rolls fast like the oe 29er's and corners much better,
also fixed the poor tire clearance problem with the stock slant 6 rear tire....! not many tire choice's for 29"

It's not done but it's getting closer.
    I've got a 30t up front for 2 upcoming races normally I run a 32 or 34t.
The Spank Oozy wheels are fast, stiff and light! I'm in the process of lacing some Spank Subrosa Evo rims to e13 hubs which will rock Schwalbe HansDampf's. The WTB's will be replaced by another lightweight tire. I can't stand the tires constant need to push through corners. I like the tires to slide then grab when cornering not just let loose and never come back.
Finally, I'm not totally thrilled about the Talas. I've only got one ride on the new fork but I think I may dump it for something else.

Why'd you go with coil? Reason I ask is I'm thinking about picking up a '13 RC4 for the Firebird, possibly to be used for lift access riding.

The simple answer is... because I already had the coil.

I have both a Float CTD Kashima fancy-pants shock and the RC4. Fortunately, one of my ti springs was the correct length and weight too which helped keep the weight down.
I've been finding grabbing my 5.7c to ride everywhere. Places I used to grab the 4" bike for, or the hardtail or the freeride bike.. whatever, I just grab the 5.7c now. The coil gives me a lot of opportunity to change different aspects of the bikes handling which emphasize the ability to shred anything.

The CTD rear shock was 98% awesome before I swapped out the coil. The bottom out control on the CTD sucked on maybe 5% of the trails I ride....

... and then I installed the RC4 and I started to notice more differences between the two. I can't say they are downfalls as I was always finishing every ride with a grin from ear to ear and no complaints.
The RC4 seems to make the bike feel "snappier" when making more forceful movements like floating the front end and transferring weight off the rear tire to get into a drift and slam through corners, or manualing through stutter bumps and roots. I can also bump up the bottom out support and get a little bike more "bottomless" feel.

I feel like I have more traction but it's probably me just me being optimistic.

Cool, thanks! I guess if you are someone who wants to tweak their suspension settings then the RC4 is a huge step up from the CTD.

What length are you running your fork at? 150 or 160?

Got an ENVE/King wheel upgrade courtesy of a wheelbuilder.com contest! Amazing ride, now even better.

Yeah, I thought so! Esteban over at wheelbuilder.com was super cool to work with and let me pick out exactly the parts/colors I wanted. I don't have a thru-axle rear end so I got a 10mm thru-axle hub and put a Hadley thru-bolt in it. The overall stiffness of the wheels is really nice. The bike changes direction instantly and accelerates like a demon.
