    Pivot Firebird 27.5 Review

I had the opportunity to ride the Firebird 27.5 while in Phoenix/Sedona.

    Here is what I thought.

Hi bob, I was able to get the bike from pivot for this review.

Demos are available from most pivot dealers.

    You have good connections...

I was directed to a dealer when I contacted Pivot.

I'll be demoing a medium Firebird 27.5 this weekend!! After years of use and abuse, my Lenz 29ers are creaky and worn. Perhaps it's time for me to support the local company? Guess they don't have a small in the valley right now so hope I can still get a good feel for the bike on a size too large.

Thanks for the review - I am also wondering if the Firebird 27.5 is with the Demo fleet?

KK I would be interested in your thoughts after you finish this weekend's demo. Both of us still love our Firebirds (even if they are rolling 26 in wheels).

We do in fact a few of the 650b Birds in the West & East Coast demo fleets. I don't remember what the distribution was between them though.

I haven't had that much fun on a bike in years! Bike was easy on the climbs, frisky on the trails, and great on descents. Despite me being overweight and out of shape and the bike have humongous semi-bald tires, I claimed all sorts of Strava PRs on *gasp* flat sections of trail! I didn't cut er loose on the descents as the tires kind of scared me, but could feel the potential. This bike and I got along. I'm coming from riding nothing but 29ers (Lenz Behemoth, Lenz Lunchbox, Salsa dos Niner) since about 2005 for all XC/AM rides. The 650B wave? It's real... and I'm sold.

Best part of the demo was when I was riding Desert Classic from my house over to catch National... I was grinning ear to ear on my first little "downhill" and was passed by two bikers going the opposite way. First one said in rapid passing, "Nice Pivot". I knew that voice... Chris Cocalis! Yup, time for me to finally support my local company

For those interested, this medium bike as built with was 31.9 lbs.

Bobo - I'm pals with half the staff at Pivot but still got the demo thru Rage. Give them a holler and take it for a SoMo spin!

He has been riding a lot lately. I saw him out there on Sunday morning too.

I think I need carbon on the next bike.

Saw CC out there again yesterday around 5:30. It was way hot! He must be training for Leadville or be psycho like me and love riding SOMO I the summer...

I converted my Firebird with Sun Charger wheels, and I love it!! I have been on the fence between 29er's and 26er's, and now I am not. I used to ride trails, and go, "Wish I had the 29er here", or "Wish I had the 26er there", and that feeling is gone.

Bottom line, no matter what I ride now, I am not wishing I was on either of the other wheel sizes. So for me, it really does make the Firebird a "quiver killer".
